Hi!
I have updated Maxbuttons via WordPress updater (By selecting multiple plugins and updating them).
All buttons have dissapeared. Upon deactivating the plugin, as expected, the shortcodes are seen as text. After reactivating the plugin, there is no shortcodes text, but also no buttons.
We are running a high ranked/converting blog and this is a real problem. More than 50 articles have CTA buttons, this is causing losses.
What else could we do, other than deactivating/reactivating the plugin?
Thank you!
Can you see in your database if it created a table called ‘(wp_)maxbuttonsv3’?
This is what you can try if the buttons don’t come back. Deactivate plugin, make sure maxbuttonsv3 doesn’t exist as a table ( don’t touch anything else! ) – reactive the new version of the plugin.
If that doesn’t work please check your error logs and post any errors here.
Like many here, the new update hid my old buttons. I deactivated and reactivated the plugin, but the buttons still don’t appear. I”m unable to login to my cPanel server at the moment due to issues at the hosts’ end so can’t look at the tables. Any other solutions I can try?
“(wp_)maxbuttonsv3” is in the database after deactivating the plugin. I have deleted the table and reactivated the plugin, but it was still the same. Then I looked inside of the table and actually there is only one button, with ID “1”, But, the list of buttons in plugin settings is completely empty. (Most of my CTA buttons are with ID “3”).
I have changed one post to call that button with ID “1”, to see if it will appear, but this made the whole post disappear.
Also, now when the plugin is activated, post is not seen in editor.
I have tried to update Maxbuttons on my mirror site (Unindexed, it is a new version of the blog soon to be released but it has all the same plugins and articles, only the theme is different), and the same has happened.
Also, I have installed “View WP Error Log” plugin, put id doesn’t work. I will try to edit the functions.php on my own.
Can I have the access to the older version of the plugin, to restore the buttons on the live site? Then I can experiment on the other one until I make it work with the new version.
Thank you!
The old version is here : https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/maxbuttons.1.37.zip . Please be sure to deactivate the new one so they don’t run at the same time.
I’d be very interested if you can find any errors in your development version since I haven’t seen this problem happening yet. Normally you can get errors out by setting WP_DEBUG and having PHP log errors.
How much buttons did you have in the plugin?
It was about 6 or 7 different buttons.
Thanks for the file and quick response!
Everybody should talk firs instead of writing stupid 1 star reviews…I will keep you posted and send you the error logs.
Updated to 3.01 via WordPress Plugins updater, no errors or alerts during update. Checked my site and ALL buttons had gone – EEK! Panic!!!
I removed 3.01 and re-installed 1.37 as I still had the original ZIP file, all my buttons are now back again (phew!) I have in excess of 20 buttons though not all used currently on the website.
What is your recommendation for the best upgrade path (out of hours on a test site first of course).
Thanks, KeithAs describe more often here, deactivate plugin, update, activate plugin and your buttons should be back. It’s of course best to try it first on test site if you have one, but if not this should work.
Rest assured though that worst thing that can happen is the button are not showing up / migrated correctly. We designed this upgrade in a way that the original buttons from previous versions -can not- go lost due to this update. So you can always more back to earlier versions if something goes wrong.
Same problem here, and same solution here as the ones described above. Doing an automatic upgrade caused the buttons to vanish without explanation. If I had not found this thread, I would have deleted the plugin.
Thanks everyone for the ratings love. Bas and I really appreciate it.
If we’ve done a good job with support or you just love MaxButtons as much as we do, please consider writing a review. It helps others know that MaxButtons is something good to use.
Best,
Bob
I updated via wordpress updater (several plugins at once) and had same experience as others on this thread that buttons were not on web page. Luckily I did this on sandbox version of my site so I didn’t panic *too* much.
Found this thread, deactivated and reactivated, and plugins appeared.
I did not check to see if table _v3 existed before deactivating, but I suspect that was the problem.
No errors were shown during the update.
Er, “buttons” appeared.
Yes buttons are back after re-activating.
But with different short codes/ numbers, so basically have to check all pages and restore short codes.
Would be nice to be informed at forehand when such changes are happening within the future.
That should not happen on a clear database table. You can try to deactivate plugin, DROP (not just clear) the new maxbuttonsv3 table and then reactivate again. Do not touch or DROP / DELETE any of the other tables of course.
My buttons aren’t appearing properly. Thank you for sorting out the licence key.
I’m building a new site, currently hosted temporarily at https://www.drivinglessonshuddersfield.co where I have a number of buttons on the landing page which, since the update do not show correctly.
I’ve tried numerous times to deactivate and reactivate and have also dropped the maxbuttonsv3 table from the database while the plugin was deactivated but this has not sorted out the buttons. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanksBarry
