  • Still getting issues with the plugin from ver 4.0.0 to 4.0.12.
When logged in I am still getting this warning everytime:
(Please note: This issue is the same for updated plugin version as well as a new installation with only Akismet installed…)

Warning: Missing argument 2 for ITSEC_Brute_Force::execute_brute_force_login_successful() in /home/********** obscured ********/wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/modules/free/brute-force/class-itsec-brute-force.php on line 52

Is there any fix for this as I am thinking of migrating 10 sites away due to this… I previous posted this at version 4.0.0 which was NOT shown in the comments.

    Hi !

    Thanks for this great plugin.

Here I have an issue : In the dashboard, iThemes tells me that “A user with id 1 still exists.”. But in the “Advanced” page, it tells me that : “It looks like you have already removed the admin user. No further action is necessary.”

It appears that the user id 1 has been removed but it is still in the dashboard…

    Thanks a lot !

This saga doesn’t seem to be going anywhere – I don’t have a sense that iThemes are on top of this – or even able to roll-back to something stable. I’m locked out of 10 sites so it looks like I will have to delete this plugin across all these sites and look for another security solution.

Additionally I found the new plugin interface very confusing and difficult to follow so will look for another solution.

This is a real shame for BWPS and iThemes – not recommended.

You guys have ruined what was the best wp security plugin out there.

Was there ANY testing done before you destroyed this plugin?

Same issues as several people listed here. I registered just to vent my frustration.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I’ll be going BACK to WordFence.

    Hi,

Just thought I’d bring another bug to your attention.

I use Xcloner to backup my site and to transfer it to other servers if necesary.

It used to work fine with fine with BetterWPsecurity without any conflict.

When I tried to do a backup my site I got an error and couldn’t continue, it locked me out of the beckend with the message “error” and brought down the whole site.

You could still visit the homepabe (root) but as soon as you clicked on a post yo got the same “error” message.

The soluting was to deactivate iThemes security by renaming the plugin’s folder via FTP. Could then get in to the backend, and re-activate the iThemes security plugin, re-saving the settings.

The net outcome is that I have to deactivate IThemes security in order to backup my site (I prefer a full site backup as well as database).

Just a heads up hope you can get it fixed soon.

Thanks for all your hard work

I am locked out too and I have not enough technical expertise to do all the steps with the database! I am afraid I will have to delete my WordPress completely from the installatron (FTP server). And then install it again and import the files from my backup. Any other help for a not so technical person?

I installed my version less then 2 days ago, so it seems the new version has problems too. I can kick myself for allowing this plugin to change my settings!

What I absolutely do not understand is that a plugin with so many problems gets an 5 star rating! For me that was a reassurance.

@wonder404 I think the 5 star ratings are from before the plug in changed. Here’s hoping they repair the new version soon!

I’m not sure if this helps you, but for me to get my site working again I went into my site files via FTP and deleted my .htaccess file and then also deleted the plug in file. Hope that helps!

yes – I will FTP to my sites and simply delete the specific plugin folder – for now

Guys, if you see a notice that says, “Sufficient permissions…” when you try to access wp-admin it’s because the ‘hide backend’ option is checked.

I present on a golden plate a simple solution:

    1) Go to your database using phpmyadmin.

    2) Go to the wp_options table.

    3) Search for ‘itsec_hide_backend”

    4) Change ‘enabled’ to ‘disabled’

    5) Go to wp-admin and it should work!

I got it to finally work on my own but the thing I have now is when you go to another page its blank, hit refresh then its okay. Its like it does this ever other page click or so.

On another site which was a completely fresh install of WP and this plugin after I logged out got a 403.

I’m like everyone else, ditching this plugin. Sad to I like it the way it was. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

    Any ideas???

Also I see they didn’t fix the backup portion either.

I get this error when I try to backup the database.

Something went wrong with your backup. It looks like another process might already be trying to backup your database. Please try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists please contact support.

I had another backup system as this one died 3 weeks in.

I think this plugin needs reworked from the ground up and they need to take there time doing so. Just my opinion though.

    Hi there,

Stil the same problems as when you lauched the upgrade. Please try to fix these issues. Many people are depending on it.

    Updated to 4.0.14 Getting message:
Unable to release a lock on your .htaccess or nginx.conf file. If the problem persists contact support.

On a sandbox site today – i added this and received the white page – no access after checking the change “wp-content”.

Ditched it all – uninstalled WP – reinstalled WP – figured I could experience how it functioned as a complete fresh install fro the beginning but experienced the same thing:

thinking I must have done something wrong – I repeated – again: same result. – 3 uninstalls of WP 3 re-installs of WP and ithemes.

As identified above – (a) notified that user admin 1 was an issue – but at the same time – user admin was identified as fixed (b) checking hide database folder – received a popup that the login url had been changed ?(although I hadn’t checked that option yet) and (c) hide disguise the “wp-content” directory resulted in the white screen in admin – unable to resolve – except changing the plugin name – but still issues remained. (Version 4.0.17)

    good luck it the fix

I updated a client’s site today and it broke. I can enter my login info, but after logging in all I see is a white screen, unable to access the admin area. The entire admin area is just white.

We do NOT have the “hide backend” option enabled.

It’s urgent we get into the site, how can this be fixed?
