    Hallo

I have worked my way through various problems today in updating to 4.4. I repeated earlier (successful) steps to manually update, but this time got the message in the dashboard and on the site:

Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Widget’ not found in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage22/al/ly/so/allysonpollock.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/akismet/class.akismet-widget.php on line 5

I can’t now access the dashboard or site
    allysonpollock.com

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Best wishes

    James

  • Hello everyone.. Try this method.. hope it helps..

    for safe update/upgrade..

    backup your database first..
then backup wp-content folder, wp-config.php and .htacces file..

now you can copy all content of the new/updated/fresh wordpress files&folder..
and replace all the content of your old wordpress files..

    so for example:

if your current wordpress files are inside “mysite” folder
    ..root/public_html/mysite/(copy in here)

next copy : wp-content folder, wp-config.php and .htaccess that you just backedup

and paste it inside …root/public_html/mysite/(copy in here)..
and it should replaced the files..

open you site in web browser and you should see (update button)

    lastly click on update/upgrade button..

    and it should work..

    =======
if you already having that problem… you can do the same..

    thanks..

    Here’s how i solved mine.

    Manually replace wp-admin folder
    Manually replace wp-includes folder
and last and the most important, replace wp-settings.php with the latest file.

    That’s it!
