Version 4.0 was a big disappointment
-
Takes a lot longer time to configure with all the different pages and tabs on the search appearance page. The old one-page setup was way better. AIOSP team has really wasted time and effort on this update, rollback please.

@wwsab Thanks for providing your feedback on our new interface!
We have worked really hard to make the new version even more intuitive than the 3.x versions. For most users, our onboarding wizard will take care of their complete setup and they will not have a need to go through each tab individually. However, we made the new search appearance tabs to help organize things in a much more logical way.
If you have additional feedback on how we can make things easier going forward, please let us know: https://aioseo.com/contact

I also noticed that when I set a custom title (in the AIOSP column on pages/posts listing or when editing a single page) the site title is not inserted at the end of the title.
“My page about cats | Cat World”
becomes
“My edited page about cats”We have used a slightly different approach to page titles in version 4.x. We don’t automatically append or prepend anything to titles as this was a large source of confusion for our users. You can set the default page title in Search Appearance which will include your page title, separator and site title like this:
#post_title | #site_title
Then your pages will automatically use that by default.
However, if you want to override the page title on a single page or post, you will just need to manually add the separator and site title there as well.

WWSAB I could not agree anymore.
I have no idea what this business has done to this plugin but is has caused me so many problems. I upgraded and wondered immediately when I noticed the plugin in now at the bottom of the menu.
Then, when I went in and tried configuring it I was made aware of the extent of what is happening and I was so angry.
Now, the plugin can not even do a simple job.
I mean what is going on, what about all the millions of people who have thousands of Meta tags in their sites and cannot change????
After a few days of trying to use it, I somehow found the WordPress plugin page where it shows you their previous versions. And this made my day. I have now gone back to the last version, the one which everything was OK and now I cannot use my Pro License because it is only valid for their updated version.
Does this mean I can get my money back Benjaminprojas?
WWSAB I went through the exact same thing as you with the site title not appearing on the ends of the titles. But this is not what made me “as angry” I mean the whole “Focus keyword” and “Additional Focus keyword” in the right-hand side have made the inside of WordPress so cramped. For beginners like me, I thought it was adding more keywords for more optimization so I edited it for that. Days later, I stumbled across a post from Yoast that said it’s meant to be a template kind of thing that can help with writing content!!!!!!!!!!! I was so angry, I had to go back through and delete all those added pieces.
But it gets worse. This same section, when you add Meta-Title and Description it basically stops the whole of WordPress from working. I mean the whole post freezes and I can’t even Bold out some simple text. It just freezes the whole page. Can you imagine what all this felt like?? Being so confused with Focus keywords and then the page freezing???? I mean what and how can such a simple plugin become so wrong????
Please explain how on earth a small business is meant to go back through all my Meta tags to change plugins????
Focus Keywords for What? What does this have to do with showing Google our sites content and the search engines out titles and Descriptions????
What is going on????
In the global settings of the new version you can choose from a bunch of different separators, right? I thought this was cool, I mean I can have a great separator for my home page title (Something that the plugin has always offered, just now it is made extremely confusing)? But then it went ahead and gave me the option to do this on every single post ONLY! Unlike in their previous version you could very easily edit this to what you wanted with no fuss. It was at this stage as well, that I said na, this is off tap!!! This was when I was noticing it was leaving the site title off the posts as well (like what WWWSAB saying).
I even started going back through each post in WordPress to add the separator that I wanted because the new AIOSEO only allows the same separator as ALL of the posts.
It was at this point that I found the article from Yoast that says the Focus Keyword is only for helping. And I went into WordPress swapped back to their previous version.

Hi, so I haven’t had the time to update my plugin as of yet, but I have seen that you have blocked some of my “previously allowed” SEO features. I was a premium member but now because I have not updated the plugin it seems that this has been revoked?
I have just gone into my WordPress website to make a new category and seen my Meta SEO has been “erased” and replaced with “Upgrade Now to continuing receiving SEO”.
I have one question here.
I had upgraded and become premium, and I had all of my categories filled out with SEO as this feature permitted. Now I did not know that there was an update until weeks later.
Because I haven’t updated, does this mean that you have deleted my current SEO for categories (since I can’t access this feature) because it’s saying “Upgrade” instead of “Update”?
I’m just trying to get my head around what is happening here:
Have you really gone and made the premium plugin into a light version while premium members are on it and not even explained what is happening?
I am blown away, that I have been using a premium membership with a plugin and with no word or warning you have turned the plugin into a light version destroying my premium membership?
I am enjoying the plugin that I am using and I have paid you money for the premium plan. Can you tell me why I have been cut out of everything that I have paid for please?

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns!
Regarding your paid version of AIOSEO, the updated plugin will work perfectly fine with any membership that you currently have, there is no difference there. If you have an active valid license key for AIOSEO, it will work on any paid version. For more details on that, feel free to reach out to our support team at https://aioseo.com/contact.
In one of our initial releases we did have an issue with the titles not working properly, but we have addressed that and it should now be resolved. Again, if you are not seeing that, please reach out to our support team and we can take a closer look.
We have not had any other reports of our meta box freezing an entire page, and we would love to take a closer look at that so we can get that resolved for you, if it is indeed an issue with AIOSEO. Our design with version 4 is that it migrates everything exactly the way you had it in the previous version so no changes are needed. If that is not the case we would love to look at your site to see why that is happening.
Regarding the Separator, that is just a placeholder that you can set once and change for all your posts at any time. But you are not restricted to using the separator, you can manually add any separator in any page/post you want.
Regarding your second post, we have not removed any features from the previous version of AIOSEO. If you are seeing anything inconsistent with your previous version, please feel free to reach out to our support and again, we can take a look at your site to see what might be happening.
We have always had a free version of AIOSEO (hosted here on www.ads-software.com) and it does not have all the features that our premium version has. It seems you may have switched to the free version inadvertently. We can help you get that sorted if you reach out to our support team.
The best place to reach out to us is in your account at https://aioseo.com/account or at https://aioseo.com/contact.
Thanks again for all the feedback, we truly appreciate it!
Thanks for your reply. One of my main concerns which you kind of addressed in your reply email was the separator issue.
In the old version I was able to set a different separator for each page type.
Now I have to have my posts separator the same as my homepage.
Is there a way where I can create different separators for different pages and posts as a whole so that the plugin goes through it all and changes it for me.
Now that I have rolled back I can now have the separators that I wish and the plugin does it for me, I don’t have to go through each post myself which could take months.

That’s an excellent point, one I’d love to bring up with our team to see how we can address that pain point for you.
An immediate solution would be to set a default title in the post type settings under Search Appearance > Content Types.
Then as long as your page or post has no title set, it will fall back to the default title which will have your custom separator.
That of course is no solution if that means editing all your pages and posts that have custom titles set already.
Again, I’m going to have my team look into this directly to see if there is something we can do here.
Thank you again for your feedback! We appreciate it ??
Great, that sounds good.
Thank you.
Hated the 4.0+ version as soon as I installed and immediately rolled it back to 3.7.1. The new 4.0+ version makes me appreciate the older version so much I’d like to donate to keep the 3.7+ format updated.
