What is the idea behind such terrible re-design?
Asking just for understanding whether I should move somewhere else or wait a bit to see what happens.

Why did you remove the links to the Jobs from the main menus, why is everything so awful?
    Is this done on purpose?

    Hello,

We understand that the redesign has been a big change, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. The goal of BackWPUp v5 was to simplify the backup process, making it quicker and easier to use while reducing unnecessary complexity for most users.

The interface was redesigned to focus on essential backup functions, but we know that some long-time users find it restrictive compared to the previous version. We’re actively listening to feedback and evaluating potential improvements based on user input.

If you’re open to trying a fresh setup, reinstalling the plugin might help adjust to the new workflow more smoothly. That said, we completely understand if you want to explore other options, but we hope to make BackWPUp v5 work better for everyone over time.

The old options that are present in the new user interface can be viewed here: https://backwpup.com/backwpup-5-0/

Let us know if you have any specific concerns or feedback—we’re here to help.

    Best regards.

I understand why the interface was updated. I didn’t think much of it as a current user. I updated the plugin on my sites. I was only using it for database backups on one site but the update activated the files backup job. This filled up the server and took down the sites. Why would the update ignore the existing jobs and add new ones for existing users? I understand why it would add for new users.

    Hi @vwsung18t,

Thanks for your feedback, and we’re really sorry for the issue this caused. The update was designed to introduce a new backup flow while keeping existing jobs intact. However, new default backup jobs (Files & Database Backup) were added automatically, which we understand was unexpected for existing users.

    • Your old jobs have not been removed and can still be accessed at:
      wp-admin/admin.php?page=backwpupjobs

We truly appreciate your patience, and I’ll share this feedback with the team. Let us know if you need any help adjusting your setup.

    Best regards.

This is not true. I had 3 jobs on one of the sites. The update removed 2 backup jobs and modified the database backup to “Copy of Database Backup”. That job’s schedule was changed to “manually only” so it wasn’t going to run.

Now, I have to check and make sure that the almost 300 sites that I manage are on version 4.1.7 and not updated. If any are updated to version 5, I have to roll back and make sure that the jobs are set correctly.

The fact that the existing jobs were modified or removed unintendedly shows that there weren’t enough testing done with this update.

    @saranshwpm

What do you mean by “new default backup jobs (Files & Database Backup) were added automatically“???

Will those jobs be running without the site’s admin consent or are they just inactive jobs?

And where are they, cannot find them. And why cannot select a backup location for new jobs?
    Guys, are you serious?

    Hi @dsl225,

I understand your concerns, and I’d be happy to clarify.

    • New Default Backup Jobs: When updating to v5, two default jobs (Files Backup & Database Backup) are automatically created for users who didn’t previously have jobs set up. However, these jobs do not run automatically—they require you to set a schedule or start them manually. https://shottr.cc/s/1ugH/SCR-20250206-hjop.png
    • Finding the Jobs: If you had existing jobs before updating, they are still available and can be accessed here:
      ?? wp-admin/admin.php?page=backwpupjobs
    • Selecting a Backup Location: In the new version, backup destinations are set during the backup creation process, rather than within individual jobs. If you’re not seeing an option for this, let us know more details so we can assist.

I completely understand that these changes feel restrictive for long-time users, and we’re actively gathering feedback to refine the experience. Let us know if we can help with anything else.

… and why I’m not able to edit my existing jobs?

    (@saranshwpm)

    Hi @dsl225,

In BackWPUp v5, existing jobs remain accessible in read-only mode but cannot be edited. The new version introduces a streamlined backup process with two default jobs—Files Backup and Database Backup—which you can enable/disable, select storage, and schedule or run manually.

We understand that this change impacts some workflows, and we’re actively gathering feedback to refine the experience. Let us know if you need any assistance setting up your backups.

    Best regards.

You really have a strange sense of humour.
Problem is the biggest impact will be on the future of your plugin. RIP
