Upgraded to Version 6.1.12 and ran a scan. In the middle of the scan,a pop up window appeared with this message:

    An error occurred

A scan is already running. Use the kill link if you would like to terminate the current scan.

I closed the window, but did not use the kill link. The scan continued without interruption until if finished.

Here is what the log shows when the error occurred during the scan:

[Jul 26 16:55:36] Analyzed 3698 files containing 91.84 MB of data.
    [Jul 26 16:55:36] Undefined index: coreUnknown (8) File: /hermes/bosnaweb10a/b611/ipw.deecasci/public_html/wp/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php Line: 141
[Jul 26 16:55:36] Starting scan of file contents

Then, here are the last lines of the scan when the scan finished:

    [Jul 26 16:56:19] Scan Complete. Scanned 3698 files, 6 plugins, 3 themes, 173 pages, 0 comments and 10742 records in 81 seconds.
[Jul 26 16:56:20] Wordfence used 7.57MB of memory for scan. Server peak memory usage was: 60.66MB
[Jul 26 16:56:20] Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in /hermes/bosnaweb10a/b611/ipw.deecasci/public_html/wp/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141

Any idea what caused this error?

  • What I am starting to see is the following PHP error being written to the error log in the wp-admin directory.

[27-Jul-2016 12:02:34 UTC] PHP Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in /home/xxxxx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141

Not sure why I would want to turn off the scanning of the wp-admin and wp-includes directories.

    Hi All,
Thanks for reporting this to us, I want to confirm that this is just a notice and it will not affect the functionality of a scan by any way.

It has been reported to our developers (with reference number: #2298) and it should be addressed soon.

If you have any problem other than this notice:
Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in /wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141
Please open a new post with more details about your issue, you can open a new post by using the form down at the bottom of this page.

Thanks, appreciate your help and contribution in Wordfence development.

    Hi there is an error
Wordfence Live Activity: Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in /home/uvapkcom/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141 0

Any body tell me how to fix it

    Excellent!

FIRST TIME EVER I have found a direct answer to a technical issue I was experiencing online.

As soon, as I have save more pennies, I will definitely upgrade.

I hope a fix can be found and provided with the upcoming update.
And I DO hope it also will be for the free plugin version!

AH!!! The alarming notice is GONE!
    Thnx to you all!

I found that if downgrade Wordfence plugin to version 6.1.3 all works well. Will probably work on a newer version but I picked that version since it goes back to April 2016- far enough back to not we a problem.
I recommend everyone try that solution – works perfectly. Just rename the existing Wordfence folder to “Wordfence1” – then copy from backup the complete Wordfence folder (with older version) to the active plugin folder of WordPress.

    Hi There
I just noticed the error today. I have run 2 scans and it is still there.
    [Aug 02 09:06:21] Undefined index: coreUnknown (8) File: /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php Line: 141

[Aug 02 09:06:40] Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141

Can anyone help to fix this error please?

    Thanks Karyn

This error is purely cosmetic. Wordfence works. It just outputs this “error” without affecting what it does. There’s no need, as far as I can see, to downgrade.

My assumption is that there’s a new release in the pipeline.

Ah, my notice is NOT gone… ??

This may be stopping the Blocked IPs page from working correctly?
The “Wordfence activity in the past 2 weeks” Dashboard section lists some IPs blocked, however /wp-admin/admin.php?page=WordfenceBlockedIPs is showing no blocked IPs but is showing a bannner with this index error:
Wordfence Live Activity: Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141

@magdigit We didn’t release a new update yet, so you still may get it here and there.

@kpbryce132 It’s not recommended to use an old version of Wordfence (or any other plugin), every release includes some fixes/features which you can check them here and you really shouldn’t miss that because of a simple “notice” that I confirm -again- it will not affect the functionality of Wordfence and it will be addressed in the next update.

@jonathan No, this “notice” can’t be the reason for this issue, please check my reply here for the possible reason regarding what you mentioned.

    Thanks @sterndata and all!

Maybe this Wordfence 6.1.12 version hash line 141 error has been under reported. I don’t know.

However, please be aware this version stopped my WordPress web site from loading and WP dashboard access was halted. I’d call that pretty serious and worthy of a drastic action to reload an older version of Wordfence. My host quickly localized the problem to the Wordfence plugin and disabled it.

With all due respect, I don’t think Wordfence is adequately tested before a release – it is probably being “field tested” with horrible consequences as you can see!

I disagree about using the older version since it does offer protection and the “Falcon” caching is very important in loading the site and keeping response at a good rate.

Been searching for the cause of this issue for a couple of weeks… Glad to know that it is not a serious issue and will be resolved soon.

Thanks for letting us know – As a side note, it would be helpful when these issues arise if word fence could let us know about these issues / solutions so that we don’t spend valuable time researching these issues. (a quick email to your paid subscriber base would have been a great customer service and would have saved me a few hours of time viewing logs, etc…)

In any case.. I love the plugin and have been very happy with Wordfence.

I have the Wordfence v6.1.12 installed and it has the same problem, displaying

Wordfence Live Activity: Notice: Undefined index: coreUnknown in /[myWebServer]/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/wordfenceHash.php on line 141 0

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks for any help.
