    Hi,

I recently updated the plugin to Version 7.5.4, once updated this stopped any emails going from WordPress. I noticed I was not receiving the alert emails, the only thing I had updated on the website was the WordFence plugin. It also stopped any emails being received from other plugins on the website so none of the emails were working. Once I uninstalled the plugin all emails started working again.

I’m not sure why the new version stopped emails being sent from WordPress. If this could be fixed or the issue looked into that would be great. I don’t want to have to swap from Wordfence as it’s a great plugin but emails are more important for the website.

    Thanks,
    Amy

Hi @ecc94, thanks for reaching out to us.

This sounds pretty unusual. Ultimately, Wordfence uses WordPress’ default mail send functions, so there should be no difference between our alerts and any other WordPress emails you may be sending out. Due to using these functions ourselves, the default behaviour would not be to block them however it sounds like that could be happening if disabling Wordfence seems to fix the issue.

It might be worth trying Learning Mode. From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now try to manually trigger an email from your site, such as a password reset or another plugin function. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished performing the actions, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting. Now test to see if emails are sending again.

You can also check if cron jobs are running on your site by checking Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Cron Jobs, you will want to find wordfence_email_activity_reportandwordfence_daily_cron` to make sure they exist.

If your web server is having a problem with the email software on it, a restart of postfix or sendmail (whichever is installed) can fix it. Your hosting provider may need to help with this.

Let me know how you get on!

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions with switching to “Learning Mode” and testing the emails and switching back. This worked perfectly and I am now receiving all the emails from the website.

Thanks so much for your help it’s great to have that sorted!
