After upgrading to 8.5.0 there are (marketing) messages in the payment method dropdowns:

Credit card: “Let your customers pay with major credit and debit cards without leaving your store.”

SEPA: “Reach 500 million customers and over 20 million businesses across the European Union.”

I think this is a bug and confusing to customers that want to enter the payment details.

  • Hey there, @devcri! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

You are correct, this seems to be a bug. I was able to replicate it on my website. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

We will do our best to fix it as soon as possible.

We can’t specify a date when the bug will be fixed, it is still in progress. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and we thank you for your patience.

You can follow the GitHub report here if you want to get updates on the progress.

If you want, you can use the legacy checkout while the bug is not fixed, although some payment methods might not work on it.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for testing/confirming the bug. I can’t roll back to the legacy checkout. I had problems with my WooCoomerce Subscriptions that changed from SEPA Payments to “Manual” and was waiting to update to 8.5.0. So I will just wait for the next update.

    Hi @devcri,

I can also confirm the new text, however, this is not a bug, it’s a feature.

Reviewing the latest changelogs for Stripe you can find this:

    • Add – Allow customizing the title and description of the UPE payment methods.

Which is awesome! You can customize each by going to your WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe > Payment Methods > Customize (next to each payment method). You can add a Name and a Description for each.

Here’s the relevant documentation for it: https://woocommerce.com/document/stripe/setup-and-configuration/additional-payment-methods/#customizing

    Cheers!

    Hi @devcri,

I’m glad we were able to help!

If you have a few minutes, we’d love if you could leave us a review:?https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/woocommerce-gateway-stripe/reviews/.

    Thanks and all the best.

This is user facing text. It’s not on the backend. Why is the default for customers to see copy that is written for the admin?

    Hi @rsoren54,

I’m afraid I did not understand what you are referring to here.

As this topic has already been marked as solved, please create a new topic so that we can address your issue(s) separately.

    Thanks for understanding!

@ckadenge I would assume what @rsoren54 means is (if they think anything alike I do) that WooCommerce/Stripe cannot just “go and force a admin-intended string down the customer throats”

Not without prominent announcement at least, prompting the admin to change that string immediately.

    Imagine:
    – you have a busy shop
    – you come in one nice day as customer of that shop and see a string like Let your customers pay with major credit and debit cards without leaving your store.
    – I personally would know that is just a glitch, probably would contact the site owner to tell them “hey- complete your shop setup!”. But any other customer? They will abandon that shop immediately because that string is NOT for customers, it is for ADMINS!

So the right thing to do is show NOTHING, if the admin has nothing saved in that setting. Not show some arbitrary, admin-intended language!

This is really unprofessional. I suggest to at least fix the part where if nothing is saved, nothing is shown. That would be adequate. Or, a default (as it was before) and not a admin-intended language.
