Jetpack went from being a must-have plugin to being a paid plugin for commercial websites.

If you don’t plan to pay $240/yr for the JetPack features there is no point installing it. I’ve uninstalled from all my small hobby sites.

I loved the super-simple traffic stats that you got with Jetpack, but now they want me to pay more for stats than I pay for the domain and hosting.

    Not cool Automattic!

This is exactly my feelings on this. It makes economic sense to start charging for Jetpack, but then they decided to go with the business strategy of targeting whales (aka, One Percenters). I’ve never understood this strategy, because One Percenters are only ever a fraction of any customer base and so it’s like putting your eggs in one basket. No matter how big they are at the moment, whales can still fall or switch platforms. It makes more business sense to keep the large base of smaller sites happy than to drop all of them in favor of the few sites that are earning the most money.

Hi @oldmillennial! Thank you for sharing your concerns about the recent changes in the Stats feature. Stats are free for personal sites that don’t promote a product/ service or generate revenue. We introduced a premium model for commercial sites to support enhancements and the development of new functionalities.

This step was taken to ensure we can continue to deliver and improve upon the quality services our community values. We are committed to making Jetpack better and more useful for all users. We would genuinely appreciate hearing about the specific features or improvements you’d like to see in Jetpack. Your suggestions are crucial for us as we plan future updates. Please share your ideas with us via email using this contact form.

If your site is not commercial, you can also write to us using the above form. We will manually check your site and make necessary adjustments to provide free stats.

Hi @rcnyc, I have replied to your thread separately.
