Very frustrated…can anyone help me?

  • Hello there. I am very irritated right now and I’m coming close to not using WP anymore. I’m not trying to offend anyone, WP is pretty awesome but I’ve been working on my blog for months and barly got anything done because I keep running into problems. They’re small problems but yet they take forever to fix.

    I have two problems now that are seriously making me want to throw something at a wall. I thought I had pretty much got everything under controll but I was wrong. I tried making a page with thumbnails that you click and a new window pops up and you see the picture. At first it works, but then later when I check on it TinyMC has totally changed the coding to where it won’t work, no matter how many times I try. So I turned the editor off, but now I can’t have access to all the features of bloging, such as bolding, spell checking, etc. Is there anyway around this… I would like something that doesn’t mess with my coding but I also don’t want to give up the blogging features.

    The other issue I have is rather common here. Smilies. I know, I can hear you groaning about it right about now but seriously, how come whenever WP updates their software they can’t fix the smilies bug? It’s something so simple yet something everyone wants, I don’t see why it isn’t working…unless there is a plugin that works that I don’t know about.

    Sorry if my post comes off rude or anything, I’m just so very frustrated and I really want to update my site without any problems.

  • The other issue I have is rather common here. Smilies. I know, I can hear you groaning about it right about now but seriously, how come whenever WP updates their software they can’t fix the smilies bug? It’s something so simple yet something everyone wants, I don’t see why it isn’t working…unless there is a plugin that works that I don’t know about.

    We all get the frustration factor, but that is completely non-descriptive of what the actual problem is. What, exactly, isn’t working?

    Well, the coding keeps messing up. I post this:

    <a href="myart/color/girl.jpg"><img border="0" src="thumb/girl.gif"/

    and then after I sumbit my changes, I got back and WP has changed it into <a target="_blank" href="myart/color/girl.jpg"><img border="0" src="thumb/girl.gif"/>

    It’s very frustrating and I wouldn’t mind if when it did that it actually WORKED but it only works for a little bit. If I refresh my page or if someone comes by the page for the first time it doesn’t work.

    As for the smilie, it’s the same ol problems you see around the board… I wasn’t really looking for help but mainly expressing my frustration that all smilie plugins seem to have bugs.

    Edit: see? It’s doing it on here as well! I can’t even paste my code without it changing it.

    Actually, all the “blogging” features are there even without the wysiwyg gizmo. What you don’t have… those are the “MS Word” features. They are not the same!

    True, there is no spellchecker among the Quicktags (the buttons you see when the tinymce is turned off) but the main formatting possibilities are there.

    P.S. You cannot post “code” because you
    a) don’t read
    or
    b) don’t use the proper button AROUND your code portions

    Moshu, when I deleted the wysiwyg and the TinyMCE plugin it took all the feartures away ??

    You don’t have to delete it – just turn ot OFF for good:
    admin > Users > Your profile

    As for the smilie, it’s the same ol problems you see around the board… I wasn’t really looking for help but mainly expressing my frustration that all smilie plugins seem to have bugs.

    I asked a straight forward question. Are you expecting us to go through all the posts “around the board” and guess at what your problem is.

    If you want specific help, ask specific questions. If you want to rant, rant, but why not do it somewhere other than inside an area thats labeled “how to and troubleshooting”.

    Ahhh thank you Moshu, it worked!

    Whooami, the problems are different for each plugin; I can’t remember them all because this was 2 months ago when I tried every plugin… sorry for ranting and not asking a general question. I guess if anyone could tell me what is the best and most popular smilie plug in I’d like that. Cause so far I’m having no luck.
