This is a very useful and versatile plugin. It took me a while to figure out how to trigger a pop-up from a button, and for me there was an issue with either another plugin or a theme creating a cookie “by accident” (see thread below), but once you have figured out how to make it work for you, it’s a breeze.

@mikemackechnie – Appreciate the feedback. On your 2 points:

    1. Can definitely understand that pain point, on the flip side, not sure if you have considered what it takes to make our plugin’s click trigger functionality work with any element on any WP site given the infinite ways that element could be generated (themes, plugins etc) across 400k websites.

    https://docs.wppopupmaker.com/article/395-trigger-click-open-overview-methods

So we offer 5+ methods to allow users to integrate our popups with any element, not much we can do at the moment to simplify that, but we are working on it and always open to new ideas.

For example the next version will already include a new Popup trigger button on the gutenberg text editor toolbar (like bold & insert link etc). Also options to make entire blocks a trigger there.

We can only simplify so much though due to the sheer complexity of the WP ecosystem at large.

    2. Cookies are not added by default as you mentioned. You would have to check the box when adding your trigger to explicitly create one, or click the Add Cookie button. Unless you set it up, no cookies exist at all. You can easily confirm this on a fresh install adding a new popup, or simply by looking at the dozens if not hundreds of support tickets where users want to know how to make the popup not show up every time (because they had yet to add a cookie).

One of those is a bit out of our control, and I’m not sure where the confusion on cookies came from, though I’m happy to dig in via a support ticket. If you agree with that sentiment, would love to get you to update your review with the extra star.

As always keep the feedback coming, feel free to submit it to us directly.

Okay on point 1, it was more of an observation on my part rather than a criticism. Like I say, once I figured out how to create pop-ups, it was an easy process.

However your point 2 makes me think that maybe I’m not doing it correctly. This is what I do:

    1. I create a pop-up with a name and some content (usually a PHPCode snippet).

    2. I click on the Add New Trigger button

    3. I tick the Click Open option from the drop-down

    4. I then have various options on when the cookie will be set – I do not select one.

    5. I click Add

    6. On the next screen I add the id or class of the button I have created. The cookie name has already been selected for me; I delete that and click Add.
Back in the main screen, even though I have deleted it, the cookie still appears as an Event, with a 1 month TTL. I have to click on the “X” to delete the cookie before publishing the pop-up.

I think it ould be better if I had the option of selecting No Cookie in the Add New Trigger pop-up – but maybe I’m doing something wrong…..?

@mikemackechnie – to be clear, I was totally agreeing with you in the learning curve. Always something we’re trying to reduce.

As to your process can you clarify, do you see the same thing when you click add new trigger as is listed under that section in this doc? https://docs.wppopupmaker.com/article/350-popup-settings-box-triggers-option-settings

Notice it has a checkbox that defaults to unchecked that says Would you like to set up a cookie as well. Unless you check that box no cookie should be created as is noted in this same doc just below that screenshot.

Happy to help further if you want to submit an email based ticket at https://wppopupmaker.com/support/

    Let me know.

    Ok we’re getting somewhere here….

I do not see a tick to the left of the “Would you like to set up a cookie as well” prompt.

This contradicts what is said in https://docs.wppopupmaker.com/article/358-popup-settings-box-cookies-option-settings

I’ve tried it in both Firefox and Chrome, and I don’t see any errors in the console log.

    Interesting….

Added an extra star for prompt resolution of this issue; the checkbox actually does appear on screen, but has been moved to above the other fields in the pop-up.

This is probably caused by a conflict with another plugin or theme customisation.
