I believe double-opt-in is not mentioned there or in any legislation, but it is mandatory in Germany because of judgements of German courts.

I can add an extra checkbox on form, when saving of form submissions is activated, but I’m not able to integrate a double-opt-in feature. Because this is too much work and to complicated for me. So if this is a big issue for you, you should look for another plugin.. sorry.

Ok, I have updated plugin with an extra checkbox (which you can activate via the new settingspage). Changelog:

• new: activate a checkbox so that your form complies with the GDPR
• when activated, user must consent to the collection of name, email and IP address
• you can set this via the settingspage

So basic support for GDPR is now included.

I followed this conversation about GDPR out of curiosity as I don’t really know exactly what will be requested and expected after May 25.

But all I know is that Automattic has a dedicated team working on this compliance and there might be changes in WP core in relation to this regulation.

I wouldn’t do anything at this point with this plugin, at least not before contacting WP and asking them about what will be expected from contact form plugins in regards to GDPR. Just in case all those points discussed here will somehow be included in forthcoming WP versions.

I did a search on Google and have taken a look at other (big) contact for plugins and they offer more of less the same checkbox on their forms. So I think this is a nice addition at this point.

But does this imply that the site have to have a privacy policy page or something similar or it is just a consent as you stated earlier?

thanks for the update and your hard work. Unfortunately in Germany you can’t make the collection of name mandatory and ask for consent.

@nimrod54 I’m not sure what you say impacts contact forms but I have no specific knowledge about that. I mean how may I contact you and expect a reply if I don’t provide my name and email address?

in Germany courts judgement in general is, you are allowed only to collect the email address if you want to send an email. I know it sounds strange, but that’s how judges rule here. If you make collection of name mandatory, someone like one of your competitors could activate legal assistance for cost-incurring warning. Cost-incurring warnings became pretty expensive over the past few years.
I assume it will be similar in other EU countries

That was one of the few pages that where very useful for me. And yes, your website might need to have a privacy policy in the future but that’s up to the site owner. I only provide basic support (the checkbox), besides this you can change the default label into a more personal one. Might finetune this feature the next couple of days, but that’s it!

I am not allowed to make collection of name mandatory by judgement of courts. You will not find it written in laws.

Please add some simple visual formatting options.
Most important, a way to make all fields line up/justify down both sides rather than having message field always longer than the others and so poking out to the right (looks visually bad in a sidebar)

Also a way to shrink (or enlarge) the height of the message field, and to shrink the size of the ‘submit’ button so it does not look like an unsuccessful attempt to resemble one of the data entry fields

The styling of my plugin mostly depends on the stylesheet of your theme. Meaning the stylesheet of my plugin only contains some basic CSS to make the form look fine.

Using soms CSS on the custom CSS page in Customizer you can change the width of fields and textarea.

If the submit button not looks great, it’s caused by your theme.. I don’t have any styling for the submit button included.
