    Hello…

I’ve been using WP-Spamshield for a number of months without issue (it has worked perfectly in all respects, to be honest). But, after the most recent update I noticed the three sites I have it on were behaving very slowly – for logged in users, seemingly. GTMetrix, Pingdom, etc. would provide peppy load times, but whenever I was logged into the site, it would take several extra seconds to load. I ran the P3 plugin to sample it and it reported back (on all 3 sites) that WP-Spamshield was responsible. It added about 6 seconds of the load time on a page that took 6.7 seconds to load. I deactivated the plugin and everything went back to normal sub-1 second loads. I noticed a few others have had the same problems, and thought I’d mention it here as well to see if anyone had figured anything out yet. I’m using WordPress 4.1.1 and Genesis framework themes in all three cases.

    Hey KipFisher,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having that issue but I’ll be happy to help.

Have you had a chance to read through the Frequently Asked Questions and work through the Troubleshooting Guide? If you haven’t yet, it’s very important you take a few minutes to do so as that literally solves 99% of users’ issues.

That’s very weird…nothing in the recent update should be causing anything like that. We always benchmark it before release on a number of sites and configurations, and the standard times in P3 should look more like .01 to .05 at the highest. If you’re getting 6 seconds then something is definitely wrong on your site. There is nothing in the code that would take 6+ seconds to load. Anything taking that long is likely related to one of the following: plugin conflicts, configuration issues, or database issues.

You mentioned that others are having the same problems…I’m not sure where you’re seeing that from. No other issues of this type have been reported yet for this version. (If you’re referring to other support requests on the forums here…those are not related to what you’re reporting and those are all issues I’ve helped the users diagnose and resolve.)

So the thing that we can gather from what you’re saying is that the issue only occurs in the admin, so it’s something.

In any case, given the info above, that’s too general for me to make any kind of meaningful diagnosis. I’ll need you to head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form and take a minute to fill out a support request with the relevant details so I can look into it further. (As noted in the forum sticky post, that’s our main support venue.)

We’ve got a number of diagnostic steps we’ll work through that will allow us to figure out where the issue lies and what we need to do to help you fix it.

I had just seen these posts and subsequent discussion here on the forum:

    and

I will go through the troubleshooting guide; I just thought it strange that this happened at or around the most recent update on three different sites – with different setup/plugin arrangements (although similar theme & WP version) after everything working so smoothly for months.

    Hi KipFisher,

    As I already said:

If you’re referring to other support requests on the forums here…those are not related to what you’re reporting and those are all issues I’ve helped the users diagnose and resolve.

Those were both for previous versions of the plugin and were reported 2 weeks to 4 months before your issue, and were not issues with the admin as you are having.

Each case is unique and usually is caused by very specific issues unique to the site. It is very important when debugging a site not to make assumptions based solely on timing…you have to go through the full diagnostic process, and when this is done, things always become clear what the issue really is.

Yes, please go through the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs. If that doesn’t solve your issues, then please please submit a support request at the WP-SpamShield Support Form as I mentioned. Thank you.

    Hi Kip,

I did find a minor bug in the new custom widget, that I fixed in version 1.8.6, just released. I don’t think it would be related to your issue, but I thought I’d mention it if you want to see if the new version helps.

I haven’t seen any support requests come in from you, but I am available if you still need help with this issue.

    Have a great weekend.
