• I run https://www.atlowmill.org which I have recently redesigned and transferred over to wordpress, hosted by 123reg.co.uk. The site is very slow to load – I just tested it now and it took 16 seconds. WordPress is also very slow to load when I log in and slow for each page to load once in my dashboard. I contacted 123reg and they said everything was fine with the hosting and suggested I reduce the size of the images, which I did but it hasn’t made any difference. I am using the Avada theme and I have 10 plugins (fairly standard ones).

Any help with how to sort this out would be much appreciated

  • I think there is a combination of factors at work.

    I used this service:
    https://www.my-ip-neighbors.com/
and it tells me there are 5,925 websites sharing your webserver. That’s a lot of competition for server resources. Ask your host if they can move your account to a better performing webserver (of course they will say its fine already!) or look for a faster host. You may have to pay more. Unfortunately competition in the shared hosting market means many hosts will try to get as many domains on one webserver that they can.

I analysed your site using this service:
    https://websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze
The service has lots of recommendation you should go through but the ones that I think stand out are:
    252 objects on the page
    217 images
total page size including images: 1.9Mb
    – these are big numbers, try to cut back.

Try this plugin to see if it can identify which plugins are taking the most resources:
