Video for Cover Photo

  • Trying to add a video, it lets me upload but wont show up. Is this not supported? Any recommendations to get a video to play?

    Yes I tried uploading a video for the main site’s cover photo in Theme Customization. It allows upload but will not display the video, I’m assuming the templates code prevents it, but I haven’t looked into it thoroughly, was hoping for a quick answer.

    Do you have a link to the video you tried uploading or a link to the live site you’re having issues on?

    Just to be clear, you uploaded to video as a Featured Image in the post editing screen and not when using Appearance->Customize right?

    Facing the same issue described by @jeremy. I’m trying to upload an mp4 video (~6s, ~4mb) as Featured Image for a page that uses a Cover Template layout. This video uploads, but ultimately isn’t selected as Featured Image. Are videos natively supported by Twenty Twenty?

    Any news on this topic? I’m trying to do the same without any result.

    Did anyone find out the answer to that one? It’d be interesting to understand whether videos can or cannot be used as featured images / covers.

    That’s a shame. I also have a video in a .mp4 format in my media library.

    When I try to add a video as a featured image in a page or post. It’s only filtering media library dialogue for images.

    Seems like Twenty Seventeen theme is the only one that supports header video media. Unfortunately, no support for video as a featured image.

    Cover block doesn’t support fixed video background I just noticed.

    While I am not a fan of using Plugins and rather tend to implement everything myself, i’d like you to be aware of the fact, that the basic WordPress themes are always.. basic… and focus on all the core mechanics of the project itself.

    If there is no feature request for featured videos yet, i recommend creating one and until its implementation (if ever) you should use a plugin because it is quite some work to do everything by your own if you want it to be usable in any way.

    Even though it was last updated 4 years ago, you could give “Featured Video Plus” a try. According to the forums, it is still working. If you are a developer yourself, the code is open source so you can try extracting the core functionality.
