Previously the video widget automatically displayed a cover image from the video and the video title. I’m not sure if this changed in the last update or a previous one however there is no longer a cover image displayed.

I cannot see any way to add a cover image despite your Video Player Widget page (https://siteorigin.com/widgets-bundle/video-player-widget/) saying this:
“Use the Choose Media or Image Search buttons to add a cover image.”

    Am I missing something?

    Hi, thanks for posting.

When able, please, check to see if you’ve inserted the Video or the SiteOrigin Video Player Widget. The Video Widget is a core WordPress widget. The settings in the SiteOrigin Video Player Widget will match up to the documentation.

Are many of your pages impacted?

The video cover images seem to be working on your /videos page. Are they now working for you?

I used the same video widget on both pages – I use SiteOrigin Page Builder to create new posts and pages.

Not sure why it’s working on the video page and not in the post.
Is there any way to display a cover image?

Thanks for the update. I’m not sure at this stage why the cover image for the core WordPress Video Widget isn’t displaying. If you have a moment, please, try checking for a working baseline. Does the issue persist if you:

    * Clear your caching plugin.
    * Temporarily deactivate all plugins except for Page Builder by SiteOrigin.

In that state, does the cover image load? The purpose of the test is to check for a working baseline.

I’ve cleared the cache numerous times so that’s not it. And looked at the page in Firefox, Chrome and Safari – no cover image on this post in any of them.

Since this widget is clearly working on a page but not on a post I don’t see the point of deactivating every single plugin.

Also as I recall there used to be a way to manually add a cover image – did you remove this functionality?

From what I can see, the video widget being used is a core WordPress widget, it isn’t a SiteOrigin authored widget. If you switch over to using the SiteOrigin Video Player widget you can add a cover image.

Clearing your caching plugin was intended to precede a plugin conflict test. The purpose of the test is to see if a conflict is causing the core WordPress Video widget to not load a cover image as expected. The test should only take a minute or two. The purpose is to try and establish a working baseline from which further testing can be done.

If there aren’t too many pages impacted, you could consider switching to the SiteOrigin Video Player Widget as shown in the below screenshots.

Alternatively, if many pages are impacted then it would be worth troubleshooting the issue. I’m unsure why the core WordPress Video Widget isn’t displaying a cover image. My recommendation is to start with a plugin conflict test to rule that out as a cause. Clear your caching plugin, temporarily deactivate all plugins except for Page Builder and then check to see if the issue is persisting. If the issue is persisting then the test has failed. If the issue resolves then you’ve found a working baseline from which further testing can be done.

My apologies – you are absolutely correct in that I was using the WordPress Video widget and not the SiteOrigin Video Player Widget. I guess I assumed that searching for “video” inside SiteOrigin Page Builder widget search would give me a SiteOrigin widget.

I appreciate you walking me through this. There are too many videos on the page to replace all the widgets but I’ve used SiteOrigin Video Player Widget on the post and it works fine. I’ll use it from now on.

Thanks Andrew – we can mark this resolved now.

No worries at all. All widgets are accessible in Page Builder. Widgets added by the WordPress core, other plugins, and those added by Page Builder.

I’m glad to hear you’ve made some progress. If you’d like to return to troubleshooting the core Video Widget not showing a cover image, please, let us know and we’ll assist from there.

    Cheers for now.
