    Hi,

I just adjusted a test page on our website, so that it now loads only a single video, with VideoPress, through Elementor.
Then I went to Google Page Speed and checked the performance figures.

This mentioned that the VideoPress JS (https://v0.wordpress.com/js/videojs/videopress-routes.min.js?m=…) takes over 1 second (triple checked) to load, which actually drops the performance mark, compared to the same page with the same video loaded as self hosted, served from S3>CloudFront. The page is page cache served, from CloudFront.

Is that the expected performance of video loading through VideoPress?

    Thanks

Hi @schwipps, are both pages loading VideoPress from the Elementor video widget? Could you test how it compares if you load the video using the default WordPress editor?

It’d help to have a closer look at the pages, would you mind sharing the links here. If you do not want to post those URLs publicly on this forum, you can contact us privately?via this contact form. If you choose to reach out directly, please include a link to this thread.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

Indeed, I’d like to provide you with private links, through your JetPack website contact form. Unfortunately, if I could log into JetPack’s website, I can’t seem to remain logged in on the contact support page. So that I can’t send you any message.

Anyway, in the meantime, I built a page with the same VideoPress video. The issue is the same. Your script takes 1 second to load. You can see it from any page loading a VideoPress video, even your page, where it takes almost 2 seconds, since you site is slower that ours : https://jetpack.com/fr/videopress/

The way it’s loaded, this script in content render blocking.

I think it needs, at least, to be deferred. But still, it will remain a problem for videos embedded above the fold.

That’s why I think it’d be interesting to explore ways to deliver that script as fast as possible.

Without that, your plugin remains a great way to add self hosted videos on WordPress sites, but which impacts the website’s SEO.

Thanks for letting me know when I can deliver you with links.

    Best Regards,
