I just upgraded to www.ads-software.com from .com and transferred some of my files on my new site, which is running with the Mystique theme. But the videos aren’t showing up and I can’t embed them. I’ve no choice but to leave them as URLs. How can I embed videos?

If you switch to TwentyTen, do you continue to have the same problem?

    Yes. The same problem persists.

I just tried various other themes as well and it’s the same. I’m accessing my page through Google Chrome but also encountered the same problem with IE, so I don’t think my browser is the issue.

Where are you embedding the videos from and how are you embedding them?

I imported the posts from my WordPress.com site, where I had uploaded the videos via URL. When they showed up on www.ads-software.com, only the URLs were visible instead of the actual videos.
So I tried updating them by going through the usual motions. But when I copy the URL, it shows up as a link. And I don’t even have the option of actually embedding the videos. My sole options are copying the URL as a link or uploading a video from my computer.

So, where are you embedding the videos from?

I’m not on www.ads-software.com. I have no other choice but to just add the link in my post where no video shows up, merely the link.

The URL will not work for embedding videos.the embed feature only works with certain video/image providers that use an “oEmbed” protocol like youtube, dailymotion, vimeo (mentioned in the post), flickr and a few others. If the link you enter does not support the oEmbed protocol then WP will only give a link, which is what you are getting.
You will have to upload the videos directly or place them on one of the oEmbed sites.

OK, thanks. It’s weird that it was supported on WordPress.com (I merely added the link and the video would appear) but not on www.ads-software.com, which is supposed to be a sort of upgrade.

By the way, the videos are all from YouTube and Dailymotion.

It’s not working even with the oEmbed sites.

I think I’m going to move to Blogger. This is ridiculous.

It won’t work if you just paste the link into your post? See this for an example:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Embeds

Also, make sure that you’ve checked “Auto-embeds” at Settings/Media in your admin panel.

Are you using URL’s from wordpress.com?
You need the proper URL from Youtube and Dailymotion.
For Youtube it is something like:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Nwej1xfck

The link in the page will loook like:
    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Nwej1xfck]

The box is checked and I’m not adding WordPress links. Like I stated before, they’re YouTube and Dailymotion links that WordPress.com managed to embed but WordPress 3.0 can’t.

    Thanks for not being helpful.
