I just upgraded to www.ads-software.com from .com and transferred some of my files on my new site, which is running with the Mystique theme. But the videos aren’t showing up and I can’t embed them. I’ve no choice but to leave them as URLs. How can I embed videos?

You’re welcome! And thanks for being rude.

These forums are staffed by volunteers who give up their free time to help hundreds of people each day. I apologize that we have failed to meet your expectations.

Now, back to your problem. You have failed to describe specifically the exact method that you’re using to attempt to embed the videos. Until you do that, there’s little we can suggest.

wordpress.com and WordPress(.org) embeds are not the same.

wordpress.com embed (this will not work in WordPress(.org) without an additional plugin):

    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Nwej1xfck]

WordPress(.org) embed (yes, it’s literally just the link):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Nwej1xfck

See the difference? So, please tell us exactly how you’re attempting to embed the video.

I’m sorry for being rude but I’m frustrated. And I’m sorry I can’t get my point across – English is not my first language.

When I click on the video icon on the post page, it I have the choice to either upload a video from my computer or gallery or add an URL. Since they’re YouTube and Dailymotion videos, I obviously use the URL option. It asks me to add the link (which I do) and to add a title. So on the page I get a link to the video with the title I chose for it.

On a side note, I can no longer access my site. I’m getting an internal error message. It was working just fine a minute ago.

Please disregard last post. I have a lot of learning to do. I’ll test links again and let you know.

The video button is kind of misleading as it hasn’t been “updated” for the new oEmbed feature, so only use it if you’re actually uploading a video file from your computer (depending on the format, this may require an additional plugin to display the video). I think an update for this interface is in the works for a future release.

In the Post interface, switch to the HTML editor tab and compose your post literally as such (feel free to copy/paste the below example as a test post):

This is by far the best Star Trek episode ever:

Check back tomorrow for part two.

If “Auto-embeds” is checked at Settings/Media in your admin panel, the Youtube video should appear in the post.

If for some crazy reason that still doesn’t work, try this plugin and use the Youtube button to embed the video:

I did like you told me and merely added the YouTube links in the post. And it worked! (And I feel pretty stupid now…) I’ll review all the other posts with videos in them and hopefully they’ll work too. If they don’t, I’ll bother you again (in a nice way).

OK, that was simple and not worth my frustraiton and getting mad at you. Thank you SO MUCH for your time, patience and help.

You’re welcome! I’m glad it worked.
