Hi – I’m building a WP site for a client who has purchased Easyspace hosting. Their DNS are pointing to their existing site with an old web host. I want to keep in this in place and develop the new site in a sub directory on the new server then switch the DNS over when new site is ready.

I’ve uploaded WordPress but unable to access wp-admin/install.php in a web browser. I’ve tried all variations of https://ip-address/~username but no joy. Has anyone else attempted this with Easyspace and can let me know if they have a temporary URL? I’ve successfully done this with other hosts but never used Easyspace before.

    Many thanks for any help!

  • Have you tried contacting Easyspace to see if they offer a temp url for such cases? I’d start with that.

I have Tim but they’re taking ages to reply! Was hoping someone had done this before and could help in the interim…

What links did they provide you. You may be able to dig and host the domain to retrieve a URL that would work. Do you know what the default server address is?

    Thanks for the reply Tim.

They finally got back me – thought I’d post in case anyone stumbles on this and needs help. Easyspace don’t provide a temp URL. They’ve suggested setting up a subdomain (blog.domainname.com) – I’ve been able to install WP here as it’s sitting outside /www.

No worries! That’s crazy that they do not provide a method of developing a website without actually pointing the domain there. So, even after the domain name is pointed to your new hosting provider, you’ll still need to migrate the blog off the subdomain. Thats an easy task, so don’t fret.
