Viewing categories – allowed to charge cash?

Don’t think of it as charging to view a category in WordPress, rather think of it as charging to view your content (which WordPress really has nothing to do with).

WordPress is used on many commercial sites.

I am not sure I understand your question about charging. If I understand well you are NOT charging for Wp, you are charging people for your content. Provided they are willing to pay ??
What tool you are using to display that content – is irrelevant.
