• For some reason I can’t get my Vimeo video to show up in my blog post. It has worked in the past, but it won’t work this time or some reason. I tried two different methods:

    1. By inserting the html code into the blog post: This method just leaves the post blank when live on the page.

    2. Inserting the video short code: This method leaves a Vimeo image that says “Sorry. This video does not exist.”

    Any ideas?

  • If you take the link/URL to the Vimeo video and simply paste it in the visual editor, it should show up on your site as a proper video. If not, make sure that pasted the URL to the video and not the embed code. Also, make sure that the URL (not hyperlinked) is not centered. It should be normal, to the left.

That worked! Do you know how I could edit the size?

Try option 3. which is just paste the Vimeo URL into your blog post. If you want you can surround it with [embed] and [/embed] just to make sure.

    [embed]https://vimeo.com/9308198[/embed]

    That should work.

You cannot edit the size with the way I told you to put in the video. I would suggest finding the video on Vimeo and clicking on the “Embed” button. You should be able to control your player from there. You might want to check out: https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/vimeo/
Even though it is WordPress.com, it still works for .org

    It’ll still work for www.ads-software.com-ish. ??

Just pasting in the URL or wrapping it in [embed] will work for any self-hosted .ORG version but the shortcode [vimeo 9308198] will only work if you have a plugin activated to handle that short code.

JetPack does handle that shortcode, so if you have that plugin installed and the feature activated then you should be good to go.

    Thanks for the link!

That page says to embed with a shortcode to change the size. But that doesn’t work! Instead of changing the size I get the, “Sorry. This video does not exist” graphic again.

    hmmm….

How would I edit the size using [embed]link[/embed] ?

For Vimeo it goes with your content width, which is one of the reasons why I like it.

There are some hacks for adjusting the size but I’ve not been able to get it working too well.

Give Viper’s Video Quicktags a look, it makes embedding video a snap. It also includes ways to size up the video really easily.

It’s what I used before going with just embeds.

I agree with Jan. You should go with a plugin like Vipers Video Quicktags. If it does not work out for you, search Google for plugins for your problem. You most probably will get a good plugin.

JetPack does handle that shortcode, so if you have that plugin installed and the feature activated then you should be good to go.

Also, Jetpack is great. Click on the Jetpack link for more info about it. Set up a WordPress.com account to make it work. Jetpack usually comes installed already with WordPress.
Also, could you post the link of your site where the video is. We might be able to help you out more with the link.
