I had somebody report to me that their contact form was not sending emails. I checked one of my sites using the virtue contact form template and it is also doing the same thing.

When testing the contact form, I get the Your Message Has Been Sent confirmation after I hit send, but I never get the email.

I also made sure to check my spam inbox.

Both sites are hosted at one of the largest hosting companies in the US.

Is this a common issue? Is there an easy fix?

  • Hello Tom,

Just to start with the basics, have you setup your email in Theme Options> Misc Settings?

This is an easy place to overlook if you’re just starting out with the theme. If you’re all set there, let me know we’ll look for another solution.

    Thanks!,

    Kevin,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, Theme Options email is setup in Misc Settings.

I should also note that I tested for plugin conflict and deactivated all plugins with no success.

    Hey Tom,
Do you mind posting a link to your site?

Lets make sure your hosts mail server is working properly. Go here and get this plugin to install and test to make sure your site can and will send emails: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/check-email/

I installed the check email plugin and the test email worked through the plugin.

“This test email proves that your WordPress installation at https://www.plumberwebdesigns.com can send emails.”

OK, the plugin above works, still no luck with my contact form, or the person that contacted me reporting the same. (different hosting account, same host)

Just to confirm, We have both checked Misc. settings and the email field is filled in. The emails are not going to our spam folders.
This was working in the past.

    Hannah, the link is above.

Thanks so much for your time on this matter.

I tested the check email plugin and was able to get an email using the plugin.
I uninstalled the toolkit plugin, then reinstalled it….still no luck????

    Thanks,

I am not sure if I was clear in that last post. I used the plugin to test my server, and it was able to send emails. The Virtue theme contact form however, still does not work.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Tom

Hmm, I can’t recreate the error so I’m having trouble trying to guess what it could be.

I can only guess that the email is getting stopped somewhere along the way with the mail functions on the server.

You could ask your host if they can do a trace.

another option would be to change and use this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/contact-form-7/

Virtue already adds styling for this so you would be able to turn off the theme forum and add that.

I’ll think more see if I can think through other options.

For testing have you tried using another email account in your misc settings just to see?

    Thanks for getting back.

I have the virtue theme on another website hosted elsewhere, and the contact form works.

So, we can say the issue is with the host server. Too bad the host is the second largest host in the US. I contacted them, and they told me I needed to make an email account that matched the domain (I could not use a gmail address)

I proceeded to create a round cube email account on the server like they said, and then retested the contact form. Even with the new email like they instructed, the contact form does not work.

I will try the trace route option. Thanks for that.

I know about contact form 7, problem is people follow my tutorial that has over 6000 hits on youtube, showing them how to build the contact form using the theme template. (a much easier way of doing it, instead of adding and configuring contact form 7.)

Thanks for your time, I will focus on the host provider coming up with a solution.

    Best,
    Tom

Just a note, You can config a gmail account using this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/easy-wp-smtp/

    Hello

I really do not understand the solution of that problem.
I have the same issue. Contact form do not send email to address that I put in Misc Setting. Email is in the same domain as the site.

I only did not try to set the site on another hosting company.

Please, give the advice How to proceed with it without Contact form 7 and etc.

    Thank you in advance
