Virus Issue :wordpress-6.6.1.zip shows a virus from windows defender

I don’t have a Windows PC to test directly, but my own antivirus apps aren’t flagging it either.

Actually, after checking logs, it happened 07/26, after a Windows Defender update. Somebody needs to fix this.

In that case, please do report the false-positive to Microsoft’s support!

I checked previous versions just incase and they work fine on the recently updated windows
for now the problem i guess only exists for this version,

I should also note that we haven’t had any reports before this thread either, and WordPress 6.6.1 has been out for 4 days, so that does indeed seem to suggest the recent Windows Defender update is the problem.

There’s also a Core Ticket on our end now too, so devs can see if there’s anything they can “fix” so that Microsoft Defender won’t throw that false positive: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/61777

I got a message from 1&1 hosting last night that they picked up a virus and locked down the affected website. It’s the same file that everyone else is having problems with.

On what basis does 1&1 make such a decision? Do they have Windows servers in use? Do you know the details of the reason?

This has been confirmed to be a false positive with Windows Defender, and basically it needs to be ignored until Microsoft fixes it.

If your hosting service is causing problems, you should contact their support and get them to fix it.
