• Hi All,

Is anyone having trouble with this virus? It has infected a number of our sites and seems to have attached itself to the header and footer.php and readme.html files of every theme (even the ones not active).

Real mess – we picked up on it using IE7.

Our sites are up to date so we are more than a little concerned.

Ideas on how to deal with this would be very welcome.

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Not me. But I dont use ie6 or 7 unless Im using it for something very specific. And I use Firefox with NoScript enabled.

    NO JavaScript.

Ive also never been hacked. Knock on wood.

    Hey whooami,

Thanks for the comment. It’s not an IE problem. Definitely on our host hard drive even though it is linux.

I’m downloading the entire sites with IPswitch pro that also happens to clean the files and then am going to upload them in a clean form – hopefully that will cure the current problem.

Still would really like to know how the virus got access. Also having recurring trouble with another site that is inserting thousands of links on header.php to foul up google ads.

We’ve used WP for almost 2 years without incident – guess our luck just ran out.

Anyone who can help to clarify this would be a great help.

    Thanks to all.

    Hi Innovation2,

It looks like it’s not the first time you are having problems with WordPress security. Could it be that hackers still have a backdoor to your site and keep on inserting the malicious content?

Did you try the WordPress Exploit Scanner?

By the way, I’m developing an online service that reveals hidden malicious content on web pages and would like to take a look at your infected pages to make sure my service can reveal that virus too. Don’t send the link here to prevent visitors from getting infected. You can use the contact form on my site.

    Thanks.
