Visiting my site logs me out of the admin

  • Of my four blogs, three are self-hosted and one is at WordPress.com. The three self-hosted ones exhibit odd behavior with respect to logins. As long as I stay within the admin pages my login persists. As soon as I visit the site, the session is logged out. For example:

    1. Create a new post
    2. Save draft
    3. View draft in new tab
    4. The editing session in original tab is now logged out, although this is not immediately apparent. The next form submission or nav link from that session leads to login screen. In the case of updating the post after reviewing it in the other tab, all edits are lost.

    The main issue is the difficulty editing posts. However, it’s also impossible for me to see private content, or to run the toolbar and stat graph at the top of the page since these require a logged-in session.

    I found a post in this forum where a similar issue was fixed by updating the site URL fields in the General tab and then changing them back. Tried it – didn’t work.

    Here’s where it gets a bit odd. If I log into the WordPress.com site, logins on all my self-hosted sites become persistent. Usually. Not always.

    I’m using JetPack on all the sites and have added all the different admin email addresses to a single Gravatar profile. All sites are WP 3.5.2. One self-hosted site uses Genesis, the other two (and the WordPress.com one) use the Twenty-Ten theme. I have a few widgets and plug-ins but not many and the sites are not heavily customized. I run no ads. Two of the self-hosted sites use SSL. I use the same admin user name on all sites and different passwords. The admin email account on each site is unique to that site.

    If this is a known issue, I’m wondering how to solve it. If not, then I’m wondering how to diagnose the root cause. I’m willing to learn and work at it, but am new to WordPress internals and need to narrow the field as to where to start and in what direction.
