• I need to be able to identify what companies are visiting our site so we can identify potential leads. The only way (other than forms & opt-ins) I can think of is to be able to see what company (not network) domain the user is on. For example, if a visitor working at Ford browses my site, I would see that traffic came from ford.com.

I looked at several plugins, and all most give is the IP and ISP network/referrer; is there a way to leverage Google Analytics or a plugin to gather more accurate/detailed info? I saw a few paid monthly services but would prefer a free/inexpensive plugin.

It doesn’t look like any suggestions are forth coming ?? The chances of any particular IP resolving to the actual domain name of the user’s organization are vanishingly small. The user pretty much would need to be sitting at the web server’s box for that to happen. Many organizations do not host their own web server, so the IP range used by the organization is completely unrelated to the domain name IP.

Now, you can determine the owner of any particular IP address, but it’ll often be the ISP of the organization, not the organization itself. Furthermore, the only reliable source of IP in a request often just gets you a load balancer or LAN gateway. There are sources of IPs behind gateways in a request, but they are easily spoofed and cannot be relied upon.

You can get information about an IP, but it’s not really all that useful or reliable. Just sayin’

Anyway, this topic remains open and if anyone has a suggestion for you they are free to post it here.
