• I don’t know what happened but my visual and code editors are deactivated (talking about under editing a page)

Is there something I might have turned off ??

  • Have a look at Users -> Your Profile.

Check the top box (use the visual rich editor) and save.

    it’s not working yet

that was checked already, and I do see the two buttons at the top of the main contents box.

The problem is that they are not active (not clickalble) and the text shows up directly as in code editor. It’s not that much of a deal, I simply want to know what I did wrong. The only thing I was doing before that was activating Akismet and wp-contactform and that’s basically it ??

What browser are you using? Anything changed with it recently?

Have you tried clearing the browser cache (with IE and FF, ctrl-F5 usually works as a shortcut).

Any personal firewalls or security suites running on your PC? Any changes with those recently?

    thanks for your concern handysolo

seems like it’s fixed now…..I just deactivated those plugins and re activated them again….and now seems like it’s working.

Meanwhile, I did try it with internet explorer 7 (i was primarily workin on mozilla) and it still had that problem.

But except for fixing it, i wanted to know the reason (may be also report some bug) but I don’t know why, how and from which plugin it happened (or may be some host server error)

    Anyway thanks

i have the same problem from one day on the other. no changes in browser, internet/security software. clearing cache does not work. has anyone an idea? (my installed wp-plugins are activated since several days, that also worked fine)?
    thank you for any help

with firebug i see this error:

I found what creates the error for my installation. It’s a enhanced contact form plugin that I installed. Whenever I want to use those editors I simply deactivate the plugin, do what i need to do and turn it on again. I have no idea why it happens so, probably some bug with the plugin

May I ask which contact form plugin is breaking the editor? I’m trying to compile a list of possible causes of the disappearing 2.1 visual editor.

I had the same problems with WP 2.1.3 and the WP-ContactForm Plugin by Ryan Duff, see this post.

Same problem here; happened after activating “Site Unavailable” plugin by Murph BUT interestingly I checked the Enhanced WP-Contact Form plug-in first and it was deactivated even though it previously had been activated. When I try to reactivate I get a fatal error.

In any event, deactivating the Site Unavailable plugin made the visual editor reappear.

I have this problem as well, here’s what firebug reports:

    realTinyMCE is not defined
    https://mywebsite.com/blog/wp-includes/js/tinymce/tiny_mce_gzip.php?ver=20070528
    Line 44

    Here’s a solution
