Visual composer not working after WP update

Hello,

Ever since I updated WP to version 4.8.1 in September, I haven’t been able to edit any of my pages under visual composer. Specifically, when I try and edit any page, it says “Loading, please wait…” in the visual composer and it just stays like that. I’ve disabled all plugins and activated them one by one with no luck. When I switch themes from Salient Child (my current theme) to Twenty Twelve, I notice when I try to edit pages there is no visual composer. When I switch to just “Salient”, I get the same issue as I do with Salient Child.

I’m extremely new to WP so I really don’t know much. I paid a company to make my website and I sort of just learned along the way and visual composer was really easy to use for a beginner. I noticed under plugins, I don’t even have Visual Composer and I’m wondering if that’s the issue? I can’t remember if I had it under plugins before the WP update since it wasn’t something I paid attention to as a beginner, but do you think I could resolve this issue by purchasing the $34 visual composer plugin? If it’s supposed to be under plugins, I have no idea why it’d vanish after updating to 4.8.1.
