    Hello, I upgraded Featherfolio.com to 3.8.1 and now the visual editor doesn’t work and the editing buttons are gone. Here is a list of things I have tried:

    1. changed to 2014 theme
    2. disabled all plugins
    3. renamed the plugins folder
    4. re-installed wordpress
    5. manually replaced the wp-admin and wp-includes directories

    None of these actions fixed the problem. If there is anyone out there that can help with this I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you Tara,

    I followed the instructions.

    1. I tested the edit page in Firefox and Chrome and have the same problem.
    2. I changed this to true: define(‘WP_DEBUG’, true);
    3. I checked the error report in Firefox and there are no errors even when I refresh the page. There are lots of warnings but no errors.

    Any other ideas? I am stumped.

    I just ran the Javascript console in Chrome and got some results:

    GET https://www.featherfolio.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/langs/en.js?ver=359-20131026 404 (Not Found) wp-tinymce.php:1
    GET https://www.featherfolio.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/langs/en.js?ver=359-20131026 404 (Not Found) wp-tinymce.php:1

    I looked in those files and yes it is true en.js does not exist there. The file is called wp-langs-en.js

    Now the question is how do I fix it?

    try manually re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
    BTW, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case.

    I am sad to report that I went through the entire manual update process and still have the same problem. The only thing that has changed is there is only one warning now and not two:

    GET https://www.featherfolio.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/themes/advanced/langs/en.js?ver=359-20131026 404 (Not Found)

    I have looked and the directory ../advanced/langs does not exist.

    This try to upload a fresh copy of only wp-includes folder.

    I am running out of ideas.
    Have you discussed this problem of missing files even with manual update and the errors with your webhost?

    Thank you Tara. It is very strange. I have looked at working sites that have been updated and they do not contain those files. So it is the code that is requesting those files that is wrong. Could it be something in the Database? That is the only thing that I haven’t changed.

    I chatted with the host and they say they don’t offer support for WordPress.

    I just down graded manually to 3.7.1 and found the TinyMCE still broken so I clicked on the automatic update back to 3.8.1 and now it is working again!!!!
