Upgrading to WordPress 2.8 (from 2.7+) i have lost the visual editor. No visual icons are showing and it is impossible to write in the edit box.

My wordpress dashboard is a mix of french and english language since version 2.5. I never had problem before version 2.8.

    What can be wrong?
    Any idea???

    THANKS to help me.

  • i just upgraded to 2.8 my blog shows up correctly externally, but my dashboard is basically inoperable…none of the menus (e.g., screen options, help, posts, media, links, pages, etc) drop down, so i cant get to any of the sub options.

    anyone else having this issue?

oh, and the automatic update from 2.7.1 never worked, i had to do a manual update, which i’ve done plenty of times…not sure what the deal is, but no menus = no good.

Ok, re-install did the trick. hat’s the last time I do an upgrade on the day you guys come out with a major release.

How about Mac users? I don’t have it in Firefox (latest version) or Safari. No Chrome for us!

Also, I did a re-install, cleared the cache, and even completely uninstalled Google Gears. Still nada. ???

Quick update: I just installed Dean’s FCKEditor and tried using it to edit posts and pages. For both, the entire edit window for the main body (as opposed to the excerpt) disappeared … entirely!

And speaking of excerpt, I installed The Excerpt Re-reloaded to have more editing power over excerpts, and that’s not showing up either.

Still not working for me. On IE, I’m getting Javascript errors:

    Message: ‘tinyMCE’ is undefined
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Code: 0
    URI: https://www.sungjwoo.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/langs/wp-langs-en.js?ver=3241-1141

    HELP!

I have tired everything suggested and I still cannot get this to work. I have cleared cookies and cache…deactivated and reactivated all plug-ins and unloaded gears. Still not working. This is so frustrating. Can someone please help. I use a macbook and firefox no chorme for me:(

Andrew D300’s fix worked for me too. Many thanks! ??

Same problem on a Mac with Safari. Tried clearing cache, to no avail.

Ditto me. Win Vista, FF and Chrome (also XP and FF). Have reinstalled, disabled Gears, cleared cache, etc. Can’t resize the edit window, and can only see HTML window; Visual editor window is blank.

I ended up reinstalling 2.7.1. To heck with 2.8 for now. I should know better than to install brand new software on the very first day.

    I have the same Problem!
    Then, I reinstalled 2.7.1.

I redid the upgrade then cleared my cache again (in Firefox) this time clearing cookies too and that seemed to do the trick.

@boilr: I’m having too stange issues with the dashboard interface. It seems related to some javascript scripts. In my case the main menu entries are working fine, but for ex. in the rich editor I can’t add any content using the Media content buttons (the buttons won’t work).

When I have time I’ll try to disable all plugins to see if things get better. I’ll check also in another browser…

?SOLVED for me! I have the same issue with Firefox, reinstalled and then i deactivated ALL plugins and tested one by one with only TinyMce active.

Now it seems goes right! ?The Plugin? Simple Tags.

Just inactive, and the editor goes right.

    Maybe it works for someone.

    ^_^

Like many of you, I also lost the visual editor when I moved to 2.8. Also lost the flash uploader for media files. Tried many of your suggestions including reinstalling twice, but no good. Then decided to click the ‘Compatibility mode’ button (I am using IE8) and EVERYTHING works perfectly. This may not be the problem for all of you, but if anyone is running IE8 and is having issues, try it. Clearly, something is not playing well between WP and IE8…
