• My site has a Visual/Text editor issue.

The link is to a .png screenshot of the editing page.

It only works in the Text editor mode, and that mode is crunched to the left side of the editing column. It uses only about 1/3 of the available whitespace, making it very difficult to work with.

    I have done the following:

    • Re-uploaded ALL of WP.
    • Deactivated ALL plugins.
    • Changed to Twenty-Seven theme. (Not that I see how that would help.)
    • Verified that I have the latest Java script installed on my computer.
    • Looked at the screen in Firefox Developer, Chrome, IE
    • Deactivated all screen options
    • Created a new user and attributed the old users work to the new user.
    • Deleted the old user
    • Tried disabling and re-enabling the visual editor for the user
    • Looked at this on an iPad Pro as well a on my Windows PC

I used the Web Console on Firefox Developer to look for errors – here they are – I did download and re-install the latest js folder for WP.

I am at a loss as to what to do.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Yes, I realize that I can use an outside editor and re-paste the code, but why should I? Isn’t WP supposed to have a robust real time editor?

Let me say that I got this sorted out. I don’t like it when others fix a problem an then don’t share how they got it done.

While I had previously re-loaded WP, I decided to try it again. I followed the instructions here: Updating WordPress

About halfway down the page are the simplified instruction on manually updating. I used these. There are links in them to more detailed updating, but carefully reading and following these instructions worked for me.

It doesn’t take that much time to actually perform a manual update.

The only reason I can think of for the issue is that during some automatic update some of the files were corrupted or didn’t update properly. This was perhaps due to my having ‘hardened’ my WordPress site against hackers. I changed file permissions to be looser, but am now going to harden it once again with information from here: Hardening WordPress

    I hope this helps.
