Can’t type anything in the visual editor after an update to 4.2.4. I can look at text editor, enter things in, and they show on the front end. But I don’t even get a cursor with the visual editor. I also don’t have any of the styling buttons available in the visual editor.

    I did the following things:
    – Deactivated all plugins.
    – Switched theme to an up to date default theme.
    – Reactivated all plugins.
    – Tried different browsers.
    – Tried different computers.
    – Cleared browser cache.
    – Cleared server cache.
    – Cleared Cloudflare cache.
    – Turned off Cloudflare altogether.

None of these by itself or in conjunctions with others did one bit of difference.

My webhost has changed nothing in the environment.

I turned on script debugging. Didn’t fix anything.

I looked at errors through console and this is what I’m getting:

    “JQMIGRATE: Logging is active” jquery-migrate.js:1:141
“JQMIGRATE: jQuery.fn.attr(‘value’) no longer gets properties” jquery-migrate.js:3:258
    console.trace(): jquery-migrate.js:3

    Also thisL

    TypeError: document.getElementById(…) is null overlay.js:7333:4

What to do with this info, I don’t know! I’m at a loss. Any idea how to resolve?

It happened on my site five days back. I have also tried many thing, but didn’t worked. But wp cache plugin helped me, also at that time theme was causing issue like this. I just deactivated plugin and cleared cache. It worked. But still today same problem … Even yoast plugin is broken. Yoast plugin is also not working like it used to earlier before update.

    @vivek Rathore,
as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. That way you stand a good chance of getting full attention to your specific issue. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.

Even yoast plugin is broken. Yoast plugin is also not working like it used to earlier before update.

For better results, my suggestion is to alert the Yoast team here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo

    Hi James,

It says ‘tinymce not defined’ ‘tinyMCE not defined’

    Hi guys!

I did the 4.2.4 update a couple hours ago and I have this same problem…

Tried all the solutions above and got the same result: the problem is still there…

When I try to edit a post, both visual editor and text editor are blanck… I can’t see any tool, I can’t edit anything…

I can edit on text editor if I uncheck the option “Disable the visual editor when writing”, in “Users”, but this is not a option to edit all posts…

    A “step-by-step” help would be great…

    Thanks!

Have you tried 4.3? I was just released like 10 minutes ago.

Check your antivirus and firewall settings as well. Sometimes it prevents the js from loading.

I use Symantec Endpoint Protection and it sets my browser to Stealth Mode which makes some websites malfuction. All I need to do was go to Symantec -> Change Settings -> Network Threat Protection —click on Configure Setting —> On Firewall tab, uncheck “Enable Stealth Mode” web browsing.

The problem remains after the 4.3 update…

Also after turning off firewall and antivirus…

And I’ve also seen that ‘tinymce’ error that rosiechik mentions…

Check that the file permissions of all the PHP files are correct. If they’re set to 664, set them to 644 instead.

Specifically check files like /wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-tinymce.php and such.

If the permissions are incorrect, then some servers running security code like suhosin won’t allow those files to run, thus you can’t get the JS code, thus the editor will not work.

    Thanks for the tip.

Still, I don’t know much about this things… How can I check that the file permissions of all the PHP files are correct?

Just checked. All PHP files are set to 644…

    What’s next?…

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Did you absolutely try everything above, including reinstalling the core files?

    @james Huff

Sorry for the late reply. Too much work in hands…

OK, I deleted and reinstalled the core files (again) but it only worked after the second attempt!…

The visual editor is working again but now I have to put a lot of settings back as they were before the update and customize a lot of things again… It’s annoying but OK, it will take just 1 hour or so to change and check things…

But now I have another problem, with the appearance of the posts in the front page.

My theme is Construct and we have the latest posts appearing in the front page. Before the update, the visualisation of the posts text would stop when the “Read more” appears. Now, after the update to WP 4.3, the text visualisation doesn’t stop and passes right through the “Read more” in some posts…

You can check it here: https://www.arqcoop.com.

This is really ugly. How can I change it?

    Thanks!

Odd, reinstalling just the core files won’t change any settings, unless you replace /wp-content/ which I said not to. You didn’t do that, did you?

But now I have another problem, with the appearance of the posts in the front page.

As that’s completely different than why this thread was started, would you please open a new thread for that? https://www.ads-software.com/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

I had this problem, in my case, the problem was a plugin in my browser: Ad Block.

Ad Block was blocking some new .php files, just deactive this plugin and all was OK again ??
