Visual Editor removes trailing space after sentences that end a paragraph

  • It seems that the Visual Editor/TinyMCE always removes any non-breaking space that follows terminal punctuation at the end of the last sentence in a paragraph. Is this the expected behavior, and is there a way to change it?

    This behavior is problematic when I am using other a modified Glossary plugin to identify and fetch the first full sentence in a custom post type by matching a period and non-breaking space (and everything before it) as the first sentence. (This text is displayed in a tooltip as a gloss on words in posts that match the CPT title.) If there is only one sentence to match in the CPT, the visual editor will strip its terminal non-breaking space which needs to be there.

    Are there better workarounds I can use other than making sure to avoid the visual editor?
