Visual tab no longer displays images

Classic Editor v 1.6, the so-called default editor in WordPress 5.5.1, doesn’t display images in the Visual tab as it did up until recently. Are others having this problem? If so, is there a known workaround? Does re-installing fix the problem?

I rely on the default editor because I find FusionBuilder less user-friendly despite its bells and whistles. Just need simple capabilities similar to the google blog dashboard, allowing text and images to be edited while displayed.
