• Running wp 3.2.1 and thesis 1.8.2….when editing posts, the visual/html tab options are missing, as well as many of the other butons such as font, format, spellchecker etc.
Can anyone tell me how to get them back please? Am not running any plug ins apart from WordPress importer.

  • Did you try and switch the theme and see if you still have same problem

Hello, thanks for replying. Sorry very new user. How do I switch? And does this mean I lose Thesis theme?

Jenny – I only know a little, myself. But when you change themes, you don’t lose anything. The themes are like skins that fit over your basic information. Your widgets, settings, etc. are all preserved when you switch themes. So you don’t have to be afraid of that.

Go into your dashboard, call up a post to edit. If the visual editor tab is selected – wait, are you saying there is NO visual editor tab, no HTML tab? Or are you just missing the editing options? Do you see text in the edit window? Does it have html characters in it, or is it just straight text?

I can’t help you if the tabs aren’t there. I’ve not run into that problem myself (thank heavens). But the smart people here will tell you: try another theme and see if that fixes it. If not, turn off your plug-ins, if you have any (I see that you’re only running importer – but it may be causing something so try turning it off). But do these things one at a time, checking each time to see if there’s a diff.

There is a very nice master-list for trouble-shooting that will teach you a lot.

    How do I switch?

Via Appearance -> Themes. Activate the Twenty Eleven theme.

does this mean I lose Thesis theme?

    Only temporarily.

Hi, thanks I’ve switched to Twenty Eleven theme and deactivated all plug-ins. The visual/html tabs are still not showing?

Your upgrade may not have completes successfully.
    Try:
    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using /wp-admin/upgrade.php.

I’ve just rerun the upgrade manually and it’s the same.
Will have to try the other option tomorrow as I think I’ll need to have my wits about me to tackle that one – thank you for your help ??

Go to Users, Admin and make sure ‘Disable the visual editor when writing’ box is NOT ticked.

Hello willhearne, thank you you so much you cracked it! ??

You are very welcome. Don’t ask me why it happens though, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever.

    Thanks!!

The instructions from willhearne was a winner and worked like a Hot Knife through butter! My confidence us restored. My Tabs (Visual and HTML) were not showing after install Version 3.21 and I was told to make sure that the tick box for ‘disable visual editor when writing’ in my profile was not “Ticked”. Thank you so much!!

    Hello
I am having the same problem, did all this instructions but I still can’t see the Theme options whatsoever.

    Any other hint?

    Thank you

Checked my admin and disable visual editor was not checked yet tabs do not appear
