    Hi-

I’m new to working with a VPS, but I’ve decided to teach myself how to use and administer one.

I’ve gotten the entire system set up from scratch, installed all of the necessary software components, logged in via FTP, the whole deal.

Now I’m having permissions trouble. I don’t want to set my files to be 777 or horribly insecure. I’m having trouble figuring out how to make WordPress and Apache cooperate.

Apache is running as www-data with a group of www-data. My own FTP account runs as noelf with a group of noelf.

My question is if its feasible to run Apache as my FTP user, or if that’s dangerous. How can I balance the best security while at the same time making the WordPress files writable? Can someone explain this to me?

    Thanks,

    Noel
