Hi, I’m using the smush plugin along along with w3 total cache and Jetpack (although as far as I can tell, Jetpack is currently not on an active subscription. But I’m still getting the following message:

You have several WordPress image optimization plugins installed. This can cause unpredictable behavior when optimizing your images, inaccurate reports, or images not displayed. For best results, use only one image optimizer plugin at a time. These plugins can cause problems with Smush:
    W3 Total Cache, Jetpack

Can someone really clearly tell me exactly which options in the CDN should or should not be ticked to ensure there’s no conflicts?

As you can also see on my site, some of the images aren’t looking as sharp as I’d like even though I think they’re quite large?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @kai63

    I hope you’re well today!

In general, the main point is to avoid having
    – duplicated features enabled
    – and any features that “offload” images one way or another

The main things to pay attention to would be:

    – having Lazy Load enabled in only one of the plugins
    – do not have any automatic image compression/optimization enabled in multiple plugins and do not run such optimization manually multiple times using different plugins on the same images
    – avoid using Jetpack’s option to speed up image delivery which puts images into external cloud and may interfere with Smush optimization

I’m sorry that this is not an exact “tick that, untick this” response but while with Jetpack it’s pretty simple (just what I mentioned above), with W3 Total Cache there’s way more configuration options available. It’s a premium plugin and I don’t have access to it currently but as far as I remember there are built-in options for image delivery optimization and that should not be used at the same time as Smush.

As for “not sharp” images, this may be a matter of conflicting settings but doesn’t have to; it might as well be related to lazy loading or actual optimization or even due to how theme is built. We’d need to check it but I’m not familiar with your site much so could you point us to a few example images on site that are affected (page URL and information which specific image(s) to check on such page)?

We’d look into it to see what may be causing the issue.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

Thank you for your help, that makes sense. Let me try changing some of the settings and I’ll come back here if I’m still having an issue.
