W3 rewriting Open Graph links to cdn URL

  • W3 Total Cache is rewriting the URLs in my open graph tags so they’re redirecting to the MaxCDN URL. On MaxCDN I have HTTP Referrer Whitelist set for my domains to prevent hotlinking.

    Is there a way to prevent W3 from rewriting the URLs in the open graph tags? This is keeping the OG images from showing in Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ posts.

    Am I missing a setting somewhere?

    I’m not sure if this changed after the update from Yoast WordPress SEO plugin update, since it’s generated through this plugin.

  • Have you had any luck with this? I’ve just come accross the same problem.

    Tried whitelisting twitter/facebooks’s domain but that didn’t work.

    Unfortunately, no.

    Right now the only option is to remove all domains the referred whitelist in MaxCDN. And watch your stats.

    I don’t know if Yoast SEO can prevent this rewrite or if it’s something W3 has to modify to prevent.

    Unfortunately, our referrers are restricted to domain levels only, so simply domain whitelisting in case of these social networks will not work. I am not sure how those images and url posts are processed on their end, and the only way unfortunately would be to ask their support, to see if the whitelist on the domain level is indeed possible and will it work from our whitelist referrer function.

    If you in any case get a response from them, we’ll appreciate if you share it with us.

    What worked for me, for facebook at least, was adding *.akamaihd.net and *.akamai.net on the HTTP Referrer Whitelist of MaxCDN.

    I am currently looking for the content delivery servers for Google, LinkedIn and the rest of the social media.

    Angelos, any luck finding the servers for Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, and any others of importance?

    I disabled the referrer whitelist of MaxCDN, I found it wasn’t really worth the trouble, for my site at least.

    I ‘m pretty sure that Google has googleusercontent.com. Haven’t looked into the others

    I’m using WordPress SEO and a nice feature for either W3 or Yoast would be to add the option to not link the OG tags in the header to the CDN.
