W3 Total Cache -crashing on activation

    After reading every accolade on Total Cache, It’s really stumping me on installing it. I’ve gone through most of the topic posts and have tried the various modifications, all to no success-yet.
    After crashing with each reimplementation, I’m now up to .htaccess8 as my rename prior to restoring the historical ‘base’.
    As I look in the error log, I’m getting the following result:
    “.htaccess: Regex could not be compiled”
    I’ve 777’d just about every possible directory and the empty .htaccess file. I’ve set .php, .php4 and .php5 to runs under “.php 5x, .php 4x and .php5x” respectively prior to installation and at various points in prior attempts. I’ve looked through the cgi admin, and ensured safe_mode = disabled.
    I’m now stumped.

    Mr. Townes or anyone…your suggestions are very appreciated, and many advance thanks.

    Ah, and just to add, there’s 2 .htaccess files that I’ve been setting back to default:
    /html/.htaccess
    /html/wordpress/.htaccess
    Both go from 16 byte “rewriteengine on”
    to a varying 1.37 to 1.47Kb in file size.

    Problem solved:
    Upgraded from Apache 1.3.33 to 2.2.16, installation and activation without a hitch.

    Thanks to Frederick Townes for the email correspondence! Really helped to know the author is accessible!

    Darren, could you tell me how you upgraded your Apache server on Godaddy?

    Will sending a mail to Godaddy help? I’m on a Delux hosting plan.

    It was easy really. I actually called GD and they walked me through where in the massively bloated admin panels to click to do it myself.
    The conversion from deluxe to deluxe-grid is free, as they’re trying to get people off the legacy system.

    If you activate the upgrade yourself, GD will migrate everything on your site to the new grid hosting.

    If you have them activate the upgrade, you will have to manually migrate all apps and files.

    Note: One of my legacy hosting domains had java added on. GD threw up at this and wanted me to manually migrate. I simply deleted the add-on, and tried again. worked like a charm.

    GD claims it can take 24-72 hrs for the conversion to take place and complete. mine took roughly 3 hours.

    During that time, you’re not supposed to touch anything. However, because email is hosted elsewhere, that was not down at anytime. Hope that helps Bhagwad
