    Hi all,

some months ago I installed the W3 Total Cache plugin on my wordpress site, then I uninstalled it (I don’t remember the exact reason).

After some days I was unable to login in my wordpress panel because of the message:

    • W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/dejjbtab/public_html/wp-content/advanced-cache.php.
    • W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/dejjbtab/public_html/wp-content/object-cache.php.”

My hosting provider suggested to simply remove the two files from the wp-content folder and I did it. I got access to WordPress, so that issue was solved.

Unfortunately only few days ago I realized that the public website is completely different from what I see when I’m logged in my WordPress. So from the back-end I developed for weeks on a website which is actually not visible to anyone. What is visible is a crappy version of it, with a lot of css errors.

This plugin seems to be the reason for the mismatch between the public version of the site and what I see from wordpress.

By the way, I cannot restore a backup version of the website because too much time has passed and I don’t have a useful backup. In any case, I would lose all the developments made over weeks.

How can I solve the issue?

I hope for a simple solution because I have no technical skills.

    Hello @antoniodb75

I am sorry about the issue you are experiencing and I am happy to help!
Yes, I’ve checked your website and I can see what you are referring to. I bypassed the cache and the website started displaying correctly.
If the W3 Total Cache is currently installed, please purge all caches in the top admin par under Performance.
If the issue is gone, it was just the matter of purging the cache after some update.

If this does not help, disable the settings one by one in Performance>general settings, save the settings and purge the cache after each setting is disabled, and see which one might be causing the issue.

Also, make sure to check if you have some additional layer of caching like some proxy or sever side caching or CDN and make sure to purge the cache there as well.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

Thank you Marko for your answer.

I can’t actually access any settings because I uninstalled the plugin a long time ago, but clearly it is still affecting the visibility of the website because some files are still there.

I can’t even install it again because WP won’t let me. It evidently recognises that part of the plugin is still present in the code.

    Any other solution?

    Hey @antoniodb75

    Delete wp-content files and folders

    • cache folder
    • w3tc-config folder
    • object-cache.php (if exists)
    • advanced-cache.php (if exists)
    • db.php (if exists)
    • upgrade folder
    • delete w3-total-cache folder in wp-content/plugins/ (if exists)

If the issue continues to persist after these steps, you have another caching layer as I’ve mentioned in the previous reply, besides the W3 Total Cache.

Let me know if it helps!

    Thanks!

    Hi @vmarko,

I deleted the files and folders found in the file manager from C Panel and now everything seems to be ok.

    Thanks a lot!

    Antonio
