W3T with a Windows server

I am trying to find a caching plug-in that will work with a Windows server. The simplest way would be to move them to a Linux environment but there is third party software that has to run on Windows that they use so it must stay. I can get W3T to install and activate but none of the setting are taking effect. Is there anything in particular that needs to be done or specific server settings to get it to work? The only warning I got was that I needed to add a snippet to wp-config.php which I did to get it to load the plugin. I am not used to windows servers as we mainly work in linux with apache.
