• Are these the best settings for use with a WP + BuddyPress installation on Dreamhost VPS? I think so, but I wanted to check.

All types of caching enabled (including object and database) with xcache. To be honest, I’m confused about whether it’s a good idea to have object & database caching enabled together.

What’s Cache Preload? Would it be useful?

We have quite a large site around 255,000 visits & 650,000 page views per month. We mostly serve up “static” pages, the BuddyPress area is not so busy. We’re running php5 fast cgi – which we switched because we were having cpu & memory issues.

    Thanks!

  • Cache preload should help. To my understanding it will preload the pages into Cache so that the web server process does not have to hit disk to serve the page.

You want to do anything you can to keep all of your pages in memory. Also make sure your vps has enough ram.

If you have enough ram to fit all the pages into memory and it is still slow to load, contact support to get moved to a faster server.
