W3TC Dreaded "Warning: Parameter 1 to W3_Plugin_TotalCache::ob_callback()" back!

  • Using the latest version of WordPress (4.6) together with PHP7, I have W3TC installed and on my login screen I get the following error:

    Warning: Parameter 1 to W3_Plugin_TotalCache::ob_callback() expected to be a reference, value given in /home/#########/######/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3597

    I have tried the fix which involves changing &$buffer to $buffer within the TotalLCache.php file, but this no longer works and instead gives blank WP pages ??

    Does the author or anyone else know how to address this as it has been a known issue for some time now?
