• Hi,

We have been using W3 Total Cache along with iThemes Security plugin.

We updated W3TC to 0.9.5.2 1 week+ ago, and we have several incidents of homepage returns lockout result (from iThemes).

This error will disappear once we clear the page cache.
In our page cache settings we have “Don’t cache front page” settings active . It has been active before this latest version as well, but for some reason it seems that W3TC sometimes still cache the homepage in lockout mode.

    Please help us.

    Regards,

    Anton

  • Check if you have enabled in page cache setting in general section the option “Cache front page”

I have come across same issue: W3TC returns cached lockout page but I am using WordFence.
Purge cache removes it. This happened on a few different subpages.

@nigro.simone we already have “Don’t cache front page” settings enabled.

    Hi @nigro.simone

Here is our page cache settings

    pg-cache-settings

We use static front page with custom template so I guess it is the reason the field naming is different.

In this case, I enabled “Don’t cache front page”, which in theory should serve homepage without cache.

@edebe2 , have you found any solution for your case ? apart from purging page cache manually.

No, I haven’t found the reason or a solution. Why would w3tc cache a lockout notice? Can I add something to the settings so that lockout notice page does not get cached?

Getting the same issue. Any solutions?

I’m having the same problem and just got a response from wordfence on this:

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with W3 Total Cache that goes all the way back to when WordPress 4.7 was released. At that time, due to the fact that W3 Total Cache was not compatible with WordPress 4.7, the WordPress team recommended that W3 Total cache should be uninstalled. Following that, W3TC suffered from poor maintenance over this past winter. I’m aware that there have been some updates to it recently, but I am not sure to what extent the code can be considered safe at this point. The issue you are describing seems to appear and disappear from release to release.

Unfortunately, as much as I’d love to help more with this, there is nothing we can do on our end to resolve it. We do send “no cache” headers with Wordfence block pages, and this is supposed to tell cache plugins to NOT cache the block pages. If the cache plugins ignore this and go ahead and cache the page anyways, it’s out of our hands.

The (free) replacement I’ve heard works best for most people is WP Super Cache, so you may want to have a look at that. https://sv.www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-super-cache/

Sorry for the ensuing frustration, and if you have any further questions or need help with anything else, please don’t hesitate to reach out again – we’ll be here. ??
