Have my own site and want to put my wp.com on my site as wp.org using Fantastica. Is it possible and does it mean you loose the .com community?

  • you can switch easily
simply set up a new install with plugins and themes you like at .org host
    go to .com blog
    admin – tools – export
    save file to computer

    go to new .org blog
    admin – tools – import
import the file you saved to computer

does it mean you loose the .com community?

no idea what that even is

Are you talking about users? as long as your rss feed url is the same you should not loose rss subscribers. As for registered users, I do not thing that the wp.com export tool will take this data.

    samboll,
Thanks I did what you suggested and no matter what theme I pick the widgets won’t work properly. Even some of the theme options won’t allow me to remove links or metas, categories, archives etc go into deep space etc.
I think I’ll stay with the .com blog hooked up by a link from my site for now and research about the glitches in the import/export thing. I hope I will be able to prevail upon you later if needed.

    rfair404,
thank you for the link and info on rss feed url.
    Thanks for being there.

I just want to clarify that this did indeed move my files etc. successfully from .com to .org.

I just have a few problems with the sidebar widgets functioning. Seems there are some glitches about setting them anew. When files were imported it also listed all the widgets etc. along with showing what was included from .com. I am just having problems editing the widgets.

    The actual import/export was successful.

use this plugin to reset the widgets
then you can get them how you want
