Hi, Thank you for the great plugin. I want to know that can I delete .jpg .png and .gif images after converting to webp. Need to remove jpg files completely from posts and server and replaced by webp version with seo data(ex. meta, alt text, upload date) same as original. Or we have option to delete jpg images after coversion to webp automatically. So that we can free up some space.

    Your reply is much appreciated.

    Hi @abhichohan,

    Thank you for your message.

In my opinion, this is not a safe solution as you will lose your original files. In the future, you won’t be able to convert them anymore – eg to the AVIF format, which is even better than the WebP format. Why won’t it be possible? Because all plugins are based on original files generated by WordPress, not files generated by other plugins.

The plugin saves WebP and AVIF files in the /uploads-webpc directory. When you remove the plug-in in the future, the WebP and AVIF files will be deleted and you will lose access to your original files. The safety of plugin users is essential for me.

Additionally, there is still a percentage, albeit a small one, of browsers that do not support WebP. I think they should be supported.

    What do you think?

    Best,
    Mateusz
