Need to delete PDF file but it is not in Media Library

  • Hello! I need help deleting an old PDF file uploaded to our website in 2015, but when I search our site’s Media Library (in the search bar and manually through all the PDFs) it cannot be located.

    The person requesting the removal of the PDF is getting this URL:
    https://chinaus-icas.org/sites/default/files/staff-cv/——–.pdf

    When I search it in Google (in a Chrome browser) I get this URL:
    https://chinaus-icas.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/——–.pdf

    (The content before the “.pdf” in both links are the same.)

    Note that this file WAS uploaded to our website before we did a full website update and transfer in 2020. But I see that other PDF files that were already in the Media Library before the site transfer are properly in the Media Library.

    Note that I confirmed no one has deleted the file, so it shouldn’t be a simple cache issue. The issue is I can’t even locate the file on our site; only in the public Google search. Our WP and all of our plugins are up to date.

    You’ll need to access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/uploads/2015/12/ and delete the cv-alek-chance-2016.pdf file there.
