• Hello,

I’ve started with Theme 2010 and have done significant tweaking with the style.css to customize my widget container for the sidebar. If I chose to use widgets in my footer it pulls the same widget container style.

If I want to make my footer widget container to look different from those in the sidebar, what is the best way to do this? Do I create a new set of styles in my CSS file? Will I need to go into my footer.php and do some coding there?

I was always under the assumption to do as little style editing in the PHP file…do most if not all in the CSS file (makes sense to me).

Is what I want to accomplish manageable? Thanks in advance…

  • Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme. Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

Thanks Emsi, created the child theme as directed.
Okay then, like I said I’d like to give the widgets I activate in the Footer a slightly different look than the widgets in the sidebar. Is it common for a lot of footer information to be hard coded in the footer.php?
I may consider doing some of that, but would like to be be able to drop in a widget if necessary.
