Want to reduce display size of image on Page

I’ve played around with the NextGen settings and it isn’t affecting the display area on the page. If set the photo to 3×4 30×40 or 300×400 it still displays in the same area on the Page. Although obviously I begin to lose a lot of quality if I set it to 3×4.
How do I change/reduce the display area?
